Bowden (kickdown) cable for '83 300D

My '83 300D has a broken adjustment nut on the Bowden cable. May be partially responsible for the car shifting at <1500 RPM.

Appears that these Bowden cables aren't being made any more. Mercedes shows 0 domestically or in Europe, and no options online for the correct PN (1263001730) for the '83 300D; mboemparts.com show one available but cancel the order as soon as it's placed.

Has anyone attempted to use a cable from the '87 300D with the same transmission number (722.3xx)? ********az has cables for this transmission, but it doesnt show compatibility w/ the '83. http://www.***************/search/product.aspx?partnumber=1263001930&utm_source=google&utm_medium=nonpaid&utm_campaign=frooglePN&utm_term=W0133-1715965&crossref=W0133-1715965&gclid=CjwKCAjw7MDPBRAFEiwAppdF9Bfpx5XycNFI95Xijz6cWED1KKZMTLKjVG2xNkzl9AHahUilRf67ixoChUsQAvD_BwE

Any other sources or workaround, other than pulling a used cable off another vehicle?

Replacing the entire bowden cable with a used unit is a decent option, but it is a PITA to install it at the transmission end, IIRC.

Another option is to repair your existing cable.
If you replace the nylon hollow bolt adjuster, you could regain the bowden cable function.

You can get one from the throttle kickdown bowden cable of a junker, or the old style cruise control units found on W116s and W123s.

You have to cut the bowden cable to install the replacement adjuster and then you need to re-join the cut cable ends with a barrel clamp or attach a threaded cable end to one end and attach a new threaded quick release socket in place of the original socket.
You may also need to replace the ball on the bracket if the original ball doesn't fit the new socket.

Another thought...to avoid cutting your original cable you could cut a very thin vertical slit along the entire length of the replacement nylon adjuster.

The split adjuster could then be installed on the cable without cutting the cable
and I believe you should still be able to change the adjustment.

I would try this method first.

Or just go to your local bicycle shop and get an adjuster that already has a split in it.
