MB part numbers for 617 engine balancer disc and dowel pins.

1984 300DT 617 five cylinder turbo diesel engine. I'm trying to locate the part number for the balancer disc and two dowel pins that go on the front of the crank shaft. Anyone know the part numbers?

23: N000007 008244

26: A 617 030 05 30

Those look to be the correct part numbers. It is difficult for me to enlarge the drawing where I can see it clearly, but 23 and 26 appear to be correct.

There used to be some threads on this.

If the Dowel Pin Holes have been elongated before you re-drill them you need to make sure the degrees on the pulley are actually lined up when your piston is at TDC or it will be useless for timing purposes.

If I remember correctly you also need to cut the dowel pins to length.

The ones I bought years ago were too long so I did indeed need to cut them down to make sure the rest of the gubbins fitted onto the front of the crankshaft

It was your post or thread I was remembering. Isn't there also oversized diameter outside diameter Dowel Pins?

Not as far as I am aware - that would be especially frustrating and irritating to fix (with out a lathe).

The only problem I had was with the length

I am able to locate the balancer disc part on pelican parts using the part number provided on the chart, however I am unable to locate the dowel pins using the part number on the chart.

Does anyone know the pelican parts part number for the dowel pins?

I bought the round pins from Pelican and worked fine. I had buggered them up when installing the damper, fortunately not hurting the crank snout. When you do install, note that the 2 holes are not exactly 180 deg apart, so you can clock the damper only one way, but it is tricky to tell which is correct. In my case, the AC condenser was in so I could look straight on only with a mirror. First time, I thought I had it right, but didn't so sheared some metal off the pin. I had even punch-marked the pieces, but found some other marks when re-assembling which made my marks unsure. Good luck.

I'm starting the process of elimination tomorrow concerning the weird noise that is eminating from the 617 turbo diesel engine. There is a long laundry list of items. I'm starting with diesel purge for the injectors and working from there on down. Alternator, air cleaner mount, etc etc. will be closely examined.

It is obvious to me that everyone should check their front crankshaft bolt for tightness from time to time. I'm hoping mine has not backed out.....
