My $99 injection pump arrived...

Looks clean.. no sludge.. pulled the #1 delivery valve holder and all is clean.

Pulled the lift pump to go on and rebuild while the pump is off.

BUT... they damaged it in shipping. I contacted the place I bought it from... they are giving me a credit if I can make it work or will take it back if I cant fix it. This is after I straightened it out a good bit. No idea how there is no other damage. Cracked throttle lever...

I'm gonna grind it out just a touch and weld it back up. Should be fine. It moves freely and doesn't feel like anything internal is damaged. We'll see.

Weather is supposed to be decent this week. Hopefully I'll swap it and get to see what's what. They were even nice enough to pull the pump with the timing set properly. Timing marks on the pump where already aligned.

Figured I'd update this for anyone else down the road...

I got it running good. The injection pump was trashed. I swapped on a pump from the salvage yard and it fires right up with next to no haze or odd noises. No misfiring anymore either.

Best $70 I've spent on this thing yet.

You got lucky. I've looked at a few of these pumps and most of them were crap, either looked good and did not shoot fuel, or were rusted out inside. Finally got one from a fellow dieselhead, for way more.

I am not a fan of used injection pumps that have been off the engine for a long time. If i removed one and wanted to keep it. I would submerge it in diesel oil or furnace oil. Put a cap on the container. Then store it almost anywhere. Even in an outside garden shed.

Leaving them dry is risky in my opinion. Perhaps not in a desert type climate.Few members live in deserts though.

If this were my engine I would put a container of miracle mystery oil in with the base oil. It will with use clean the ring grooves. Generally I am not a fan of additives. This one has stood the test of time and is cheap as well.
