Difference in Power and Driveability of a 300E and a 300E-24
Just got a question ive been dying to have opinions to.....
Ive always loved the 300 series models..All Ive wanted to know is that is there really any difference between a similarly aged 300E and a 300E-24? I mean, I know the 300E-24 has 24 valves as opposed to 12, but is there a difference in driveability, fuel consumption, get up and go and outright performance? I would just like your facts and opinions, it would really make my day... Thanks Christian 1989 300TE 1997 C200 Elegance 2000 ML430 |

The 300CE-24 is rated with 35-40 more HP however it is more like 20-25. Of course the car is faster, esp above 4,000rpm.
Most people don't buy 2 door MB's so the car wasn't real popular as the price was $12,000 more than the sedan. The coupes are very nice cars!

totally agree with MBDOC, above 4000rpm, the M104-24valve really scoots (city and highway)
it is responsive below 4000rpm (1st gear start/no flat spots) and pulls even stronger- 4k through the tach range (ensure that throttle and bowden are adjusted properly to enjoy) -fad '88 Toyota Celica '88 BMW 325is '94 E500 '94 E320 Coupe |

I have a 93 300CE and I have to agree that it's got quite a bit more snap than the regular motor. However, I seem to come on once I cross 3000 rpm and really pick up at 3500. But then again in Atlanta traffic it's hard to keep an eye on the tach and the road at the same time.
For the money if you like the 300 go for the 24 valve motor - just my $0.02.
