'86 Fuel Accumulator - New part looks different??
I just replaced the accumulator on my 560SL - old part was a Bosch and new part is Effebe. Same part number stamped on both (000-476-09-21), but the body of the new accumulator is smaller than the old one - and the rubber hose connection is much longer on the new one. It fit fine and the overall length from tip to tip is the same...
Anyone run in to this? Should I be concerned? Car starts right up and runs fine... ryan

I replaced the accumulator on my 560sel about a year ago. I also noticed it was different but it has worked perfectly since.

I replaced mine with OEM Bosch. No difference. 1986 560SL. Where did you get the Effebe.

www.alleuro.com.
I was having a problem with warm starts - the car would start fine, but it wouldn't go when I pressed on the gas pedal. If I pressed too far the car would stall...if I let it idle real rough for a few minutes (sounds like the fuel is boiling in the tank), it will then run fine. No problems with driving after this initial warm start issue. Well, replacing the accumulator did not make any difference, so I looked at the fuel pressure regulator again, Pulled off the vacuum hose to check for fuel and I tore the rubber part right out of the regulator. See pic below - the rubber hose at the top is torn off now. There is a flat round piece that wedges inside the hole in the pressure regulator and it is torn away from the actual 1" piece of tubing. Does anyone know how/if this is fixable w/o buying a new regulator ($365!!!)? Can you glue rubber to rubber?

Here is a picture of the hose torn away from the round, flat piece that fits inside the regulator.

I am having exactly the same "issue" ( warm start , no power for a minute or two ) as you. Did you buy a new regulator and if so, did it solve the problem? I was also thinking it could likely be my accumulator and I was going to replace it before I came across your post.
BTW. I have had some success cementing rubber with supper glue. But you only get one chance to align pieces correctly. Chances are that after all these years, the rubber is too soft and rotted to be servicable.

Just drove the car to Tulsa and back - runs great on the highway, but it always has. Still have the warm start issue - car starts, but it chugs at idle for a few minutes and just won't go! Press on the gas and it chugs worse and if you don't let off the gas, it stalls. Once it gets past this - no problems!
Frustrating - I thought it was a fuel accumulator problem, but did not make any difference. No, I haven't replaced the pressure regulator. I managed to fix the rubber hose by finding a rubber grommet to fit...but I had no fuel leaking through the pressure regulator diaphragm, so I don't think it's the problem Fuel injectors leaking maybe? I really don't know...can someone provide a procedure for testing the injectors...I have a CIS-E fuel pressure gauge, but I can't figure out how to hook it up! ryan
