Removing Key when not in Park
I would rather that our 99 ML430 prohibited the ignition key from being removed when the transmission is not in Park. Something I have gotten used to with other vehicles. I think this is a good safety feature.
Have they incorporated this feature into newer ML's? Or maybe my ML is faulty and allowing the key to be removed like this?

My 2001 ML will only allow key removal in 'P'

I think you need to have something called a shift interlock cable adjusted. I think that's what it's called. When I got my 1999 ML 320 I could remove the key when the vehicle was not in park, the dealer adjusted the cable or whatever it's called under warrranty. I was told it takes like 5 minutes to adjust. It's not a big deal to adjust.

Oh Yeah
I have been enlightened. Had I known this a faulty situation, I would have addressed this long ago. I read the owner's manual and sure enough written in plain English.
![]() I will look into the shift interlock cable adjustment. Thanks Ron in SC.
