No doubt if I see another AIDS ribbon, Rainbow ribbon or anything else like it I'm gonna curse them for offending my free speech......or something totally stupid.

I agree. The ribbons are a load of crap in most cases. What I really think is funny are the ones that are "forgotten" on the car, faded to just a piece of yellowish magnet, words can't be read. The people put them there and forgot all about them. Very symbolic of the American public in general. Short attention spans for the important things, but they can remember what happenon the Soap Opera 20 years ago and who one the world series in 1970.

It's just another way to watch the herd follow the leader.

We need a 'support anonymity' ribbon. It should be clear.

We should ban Dilbert cartoons in cubicles.

Talking

Ya know, it's sort of compassion meets commerce found exclusively at Walt-Mart. What I mean by that is that I'm sure that the first ones...whatever the ribbon was supposed to bring attention to...were put on...whther on cars or lapels...by people who really believed in the cause. Then someone like Sam Walton comes along and says: "Hells Belles, what's wrong with giving the people what they want and making a little more off of it. Isn't that the American Way?" Of course, since ol' Sam's co is a public company, profit margin has to be increased quarter over quarter, so making the product...as the ribbons eventually are called..is outsourced to China. And that's the way it is, to quote old Walter Cronkite. It's not good. It's not bad. It's not about free speech. It just kind of is. The unfortunate part is that the cause gets lost in the process or diluted at best. BTW: Those faded ribbons...well, they're just well intentioned consumers with a 28% APR $5,000+ credit card debt.

And what's with the flags on houses? In my neighborhood there are a few houses that fly the american flag 365 days a year. Just like with those ribbons, I think the feeling gets diluted if not lost. It's like having a christmas tree all year.

I noticed most people who put the "support our troops" ribbons on their cars are SUV and pickup truck owners. Makes me wonder if they really care about the individual soldiers and their families. Or could it be that they're nothing but republican warmongers who mostly care about low gas prices so they can continue driving their gas guzzlers? No that can't be.

after 9/11 everybody had the american flags on their cars. i bought a beautiful 1980 300sd with the hood star missing and it occurred to me that a nice little flag would look sort of cool there (in a staff-car kinda way) so i went to china and bought one...no, i actually found one at a local store (i guess the owner of the store went over there and got a bunch) and had that badboy poking out of my hood for about a year.
