It's hard to say what anyone would do in those dire circumstances because we are not really living this nightmare the way they are. If it were me, and I had nothing, I would probably make off with a radio or sneakers or anything of value I can get my hands on, if only to pawn it off and get a few bucks to maybe get the hell outa there. The shooting tho, thats beyond my comprehension - most likely they are people who are just completely out of it mentally - snapping under pressure.

You're the one that started us off on the wrong foot, bro... Not me.

Wanna' start over and see if we can get along? I'm fine with that. Wanna' keep jabbing and wasting time for both of us? I'm fine with that too. But I'll only bite for so long, then I'll just ignore you.

Why are you so defensive, bro? You don't even know me. Right off the bat you suggest I should hang out with gottadiesel because I don't subscribe to your insensitive and barbaric comments about shooting people for looting. I don't know who that is or what they stand for. Do you really think anyone has the right to take a life because someone stole a pair of shoes??? This is a civilized society, we live in the 21st century the last time I checked. The civil war ended a looooong time ago, bro. What do you think would happen if looters were shot? More civil unrest, that's what. Ever heard of putting people in jail first? Even some of the police have been found looting. Think they should be shot?

You claim you have been here a loooooooong time. I am so impressed.

Just Ignore me if you want. I don't need respect from someone get's insulted because I didn't agree with you about shooting looters on site. I guess that's not a useful contribution in your eyes.

Well I think a big part of the problem is that the people in NO have no idea how bad the situation really is. They just had a newsman down there, and he repeatedly said that people just seemed like by Monday everything will be back to normal.

On the news too, and I agree to a point, that FEMAs response is a disgrace.
They are just today getting water etc into the city, 2 days s/b the limit.

Ok they didn't know the city would flood, but actually all along they had pretty much decided the storm surge would probably flood the city. Well it didn't, but the levy broke.

They've also spent way too much effort/energy etc rescuing these 1s/2s people from roofs etc. This is a difficult time, and they have to use the resources as efficiently as possible. Most of these people could have gotten out earlier, so unfortunaley make them wait.
Whats the sayin, the ? of the few vs the many,

They practice what to do in the event of a major disaster, maybe they need to plan and practice what to do BEFORE. This wasn't like the Tsunmai or an Earthquake, they kew it was coming, maybe not how bad it would be.

When the Hurricane Warning comes out have 20, 50, 100 Semis filled with water, food and medical supplies ready to move.

Last but not least, no matter what is said about the response, I believe they said that there is 90,000 sq miles of destruction.

Just difficult to relate to.

Don't bust on mike, if other countries could help what could they do? Would you support an influx of Mexican labor to help with the clean up? I think our biggest problem is ourselves. On TV I see people demanding food money and water i haven't seen one of them beg to help with the clean up in exchange for a new home, food or water. We have the resources to fix this problem but nobody wants to do it themselves, with the exception of police, fireman, national guard, navy, coast guard, army, marines, and church groups. We sit here *****ing about gas prices while others are in search for a bottle of water. I'm pissed at Bush and admit it, he's like a deer in the headlights, this is his second chance to define himself and is blowing it.

from a little further on in the piece:

""You know," he said, "we would love help, but we're going to take care of our own business as well, and there's no doubt in my mind we'll succeed. And there's no doubt in my mind, as I sit here talking to you, that New Orleans is going to rise up again as a great city.""

the "he" above would be Pres. Bush.

BTW, The Rice in the headline would be SecState, I doubt she'd come out with that if the big guy didn't ok it.
You do not have to defensive DUDE!

I am more interested in action!
If you were stuck in a building with young children and they were about to die, I would prefer the prez to be ASKING for specific help. Maybe he is but the help is needed yesterday.

Here's what is in danger of happening: People closing their hearts because of the bad behavior of a few desparate sociopaths. My own community was inviting strangers to stay in their homes. Churches opened their doors. Gyms, arena, you name it.

Today, rumors of armed robberies were rampant. Rumors of schools going to lockdown for violence. Rumors of break-ins at homes. The newspaper followed up on several rumors and it turned-out each was false. But people watch the madness in NOLA and tend to believe their fear. This hill happen as otehr communites become saturated. My wife teaches 3rd grade and has 6 new pupils. That's nealy 1/4 of the class. Our school system (and taxpayers) cannot pay for a sudden increase in teacher and infrastructure requirements, and this total will grow in the next few days.

Katrina flooded an area roughly the size of Great Britain. There are probably 2 million people or more without jobs or homes. From what I've seen, most of the poorest refugees from NOLA will probably not go back.

It's going to get bad, people.

I don't know whether other countries could help, but I don't think that anyone can say unequivocally that we don't need the help. Something is wrong with this disaster response. That's all I'm saying. I didn't mean to get political about it. If I did, I apologize.

Who would you sell it to? To which pawn shop would you go? Think before you write
