Yes it does. How we deal with our biases, which everyone has, dictates the decisions we make and our credibility.

Having said that; this conversation was begun with once again rehashing the "my pet goat" 7 minutes. Since no one knows what was said to him or was going through his mind AND that there would be no point if you did since there was literally nothing that could be done; the only basis for an opinion on that is unfounded speculation and bias. I.e. pointless. Yet this argument is a major one used to "support" the case that W is an idiot - there is no substantive argument there. As I said, it effects credibility.

I agree completely. Taking GW to task for something this trivial and impossible to interpret in any intelligent manner does nothing but undermine one's credibility. I did not participate in that discussion because I don't feel it's worthy of discussion.

Ok I posted this once before...I used to work in an office with a large clan of born agains. Extremely annoying BTW.
One day the copier broke, and they all got in a prayer circle and held hands and prayed to Jesus to fix the copier machine....If there is a Jesus, would he allow his followers to be this stupid??????

I have no doubt that is a true story. I have also encountered prayer meetings over the copier.

The Lord didn't fix it, but I did.

Perhaps he fixed it through you due to their prayer. The lord works in mysterious ways...

Did the copier ever get fixed or was it broken forever?

UN neither condoned nor condemned the invasion.

Un did pass a dozen resolution demanding compliance, which were all enforced at once. Quite a savings, that.

I'd rather not read a transcript of Bush/Kerry. I sure as heck wouldn't listen to a couple of dumbass politicans going at it in expectation of truth and wisdom to emerge.

Your "points" were opinions and your interpretation of occurances, Germanstar. You're entitled to them. But I'll not waste my time or yours arguing about your opinions.

Dude. I wish I could s'plain to you why it strikes me that you do not get what I'm saying about Bush, and what various stimulii led me to my sentments.

First, the notion that Kennedy is someone who I will automatically defend, support, and revere because he is the Camelot Democrat is not well founded. Kennedy had some good points as well as weaknesses and bad habits. Going to the moon was more innocent then. It had been a dream for ages. We were racing with the Soviets. It was fun. I'm so over it. Maybe a manned mission to place a robotic telescope a la Hubbel stationed on the moon would be a worthy aim. Of course that would require future landings to service the telescope. Don't know if placing it and servicing it could be done with unmanned missions.

However, a manned space station, particularly on Mars, is lunacy. Especially now, as energy reserves and access are sketchy for the forseeable future.

You seem to think that any dislike for W is based on utterly unimportant criteria and that those loosely in my crowd are pouting because it's not one of "our" guys in power. I don't like the man, I'll admit. Many times, I've seen him at press conferences, someone will ask a question, and he gets a look like he is summoning extreme patience mixed with a firm resolve to ignore the forces of ignorance. The effect is an utter disdain for opposing viewpoints. It oozes from the guy. Much like the line attributed to him by former close aide David Frum: whenever environmentalism would come up Bush would say, "Green, green, lima bean." The guy doesn't begin to understand many of these issues but he has no trouble dismissing a broad swath of educated America as a bunch of loonies tiptoeing through the tulips.

As for all the crap I'm getting for believing that body language and physiognomy provide useful information, I can hardly believe I feel a need to defend this. Suppose you had two different commanding officers that alternated duty. Suppose one was a good family man, worked out, no drugs, and had a great sex life. Now suppose the other had issues with his father, secretly distrusted his wife, smoked and did a little too much scotch now and then, and lusted after teenage girls. Do you think there's a chance you might notice something different in the demeanor of these two gentlemen? That one might seem a little more dependable, a little more manly?

I've known people who loosely fit these two descriptions and the difference is striking. The difference between robustness and sallow listlessness almost.

Uhh....sorry. This is some faulty perception. It is your hypothesis that should not be taken seriously.

I don't require others to come to the same conclusions I do. I'm not going to discard my life's worth of experience in dealing with my fellow humanoids just cause you think it's unscientific or illogical.

You're going round the bend on this one.

Next time you need a doc, go get one that uses intuition rather than science. Around here we call them, "traiteur."
Some famous quote has it that the primary value of an education is in enabling one to know whether or not another man is talking rot. There is no scientific way to determine whether or not another person is sincere or conniving, in any given instance.

A doctor can run various blood tests, etc. and come to useful conclusions. More and more, the notion that good bedside manner is invaluable in healing is being evaluated and affirmed. An ability and willingness to consider issues of the heart in addition to those of the mind yields improved efficiency.

Seems like you're really missing the point. Oh well, I guess you can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink.

In the past you've mentioned the declining environment. Things like species extinction, lack of natural resources, poor environmental management, etc... Why don't you clarify a bit and be specific as to what your concerns are. Please be so kind as to list scientific sources that support your claims. BTW, ALGORE is not a scientific resource and neither is RFK, Jr. So lets have at it.
