Pan-X
I think Panatomix-X has been out of production for years. I'm not even sure Kodak still makes B&W IR film anymore. I know Kodabromide and Kodabrome RC paper are history.

Kodak
You can still buy Kodak B&W film (TMAX and Tri-X) I currently use TMAX. However I believe that Kodak has decided to stop making B&W paper.
I think ilford will still be a safe bet for your B&W supplies for a few more years. B&W photography is a joy for me. I started developing when during a tough time at work (too much work, not enough resources). There was nothing like sitting in a dark room after a 12 hour day in front of a computer. I have thought about going digital and buying a nice DSLR but I don't think I'll enjoy sitting in front of photo shop more then spending time in a dark room.

You guys should just buy a digital camera. You can get a pretty nice one at WalMart for under $100 now, and you can have full color prints made right there in the store in just a few minutes. Much less work. /ducks for cover/

part of the process is producing a beautiful b&w print that is technically correct. i can't get that on a computer, besides I work with a digital camera all day long. Last edited by Mistress; 07-20-2006 at 05:24 PM. |

I miss the darkroom I used to have in my old house. Keep thinking I might build another one, but now I may just put one in the next house I move to.

I have pretty much all the equipment to build a dark room (enlarger, easels, trays etc) and Cape Cod style house with large enough closet / attic space to house one. However, as I have dogs, and don't want to deal with the chemicals. I find it easier to sign up for a course every semester at the local art / community college. This way you have free use of their equipment and chemicals with no clean up for around $130/semester. For anyone who has taken, developed and printed their own pictures, they should try this at least once. You get a lot of satisfaction from it. Here are some pictures from when I first started a couple of years ago. http://alabbasi.com/Photos.htm

Of the many things, here's one of my favorites:
Floating down the Shenendoah River in a canoe with close friends simply enjoying each other's company and the scenery. Oh.... and a cold beer in one hand. Anyone care to guess what I'm doing this Saturday?

I have a Colex R-3 Processor. In about 6 mos to a year I'd trade it for a nice Freidan calculator or a football bat.
