Sorry about the loss Don. They really should have been using tasers. I doubt they would have mistaken her for a trained professional.

The Carson/Gardena police brought tasers as backup in an event we had at work which is a so-so neighborhood even in the daytime. I can't say much about the Huntington Beach police being a mostly upscale neighborhood. I was in Redondo Beach yesterday visiting some other Benz friends and I had no idea that happened.

the point i was trying to make is that less than lethal options were their... yet were not sought... why didnt they call in someone to talk to her, or why not someone with riot gear and bean bag rounds.. something like that.. the bullet was not needed... well.. the 5 bullets, 2 that connected were not needed.. another thing.. 4 uneccasary shots...

got any friends in huntington beach.. around that area?...

Well, it would be nice but sometimes, as they say on the track "You run what you brung." If this is all you have, this is all you have. You cannot reasonably expect them to bring in the SWAT team, psych team, etc, etc for every call. Standard cop cars don't have all that stuff with them, do they? Why stop there? Why not call in a SEAL team? Surely they are better equipped and trained to handle any such situation than a cop? Bet they could have wrestled her to the ground with less injuries. How far do you want them to go that is reasonable?

That was my point. I'll bet they shoot a tight group at the range. Out there, it is different. Conditions are different. You don't have good lighting, position, time to ponder on which shot would be better, etc, etc. She lunged at them. Maybe you would have taken a knife for her but do you expect them to do that? Would you do that for a complete stranger that you know nothing of as to what frame of mind they are in? At a 40% connection percentage, which 4 shots would YOU eliminate if you were in that position where I am coming at you with a knife? Do you know which ones hit and didn't? Your gun come with a gaurantee of a hit? If they had run 100 shots, I'd agree with you. 5 shots for a person with a knife is not excessive IMO.

I think your grief is clouding your judgement.

i know they didnt have all of that on hand at the time but why shoot first and ask later.. my uncle is getting no where with the people he was told to call, only person he has been able to talk to is the medical examiner...i want to see a police report.. something..

It has been shown that in the heat of a situation people can fire off rounds and lose count, or fire many more than they thought. This is espicialy true with a semi auto pistol.

IE the cops were under stress. This is understandable becuase really how often does anyone inculding a cop find themselves in such a situation. There are only a handfull of people who are trained to deal with such situations, ie special forces Ranger's, SWAT, SEAL's, ect.

Lastly the first rule of handling weapons is you don't point a gun at anything that you don't fully intend on killing. IE you don't fire warning shots, only in video games.

Again, when someone is lunging at you, it is hard to figure out which shot will or will not connect. If you are claiming she was not lunging at the cop but standing there unarmed, I'd agree with you. IMO, they were trying to firstly, keep themselves intact, secondly protect other innocents who might be nearby.

7:30 ish in the AM... big open area .. a park..saturday..what the reporter didnt have was the phone convo between the mother and the father... her mom said she didnt lunge...and now shes sitting in a mental institute because she saw her child killed before her only eyes(which the entire family is calling her fault)

How is it shoot first and ask questions later? She was ordered to drop the knife a couple of times according to the story. According to the police she made a move to attack them. They had no time to decide if she was serious about killing them or not and so they fired 5 shots. If I broke into your house and you had the drop on me and asked me to drop the knife and I charged at you. What would YOU do? I know I'd empty the clip into you or you stop. Whichever comes first. I cannot expect them to do different. You cannot ask them to lay down their lives for your cousin.

I doubt your uncle will get anywheres. Look at you. You are trying to see if you can sue them. I wouldn't talk to you either if I were them. I learnt the hard way to have my attorney talk to them.
