I usually don't reply to these , but you seem sincere enough.

That would be wishful thinking, yes.

As to 'why' it happened, forget about it. You will go mad trying to decipher why. Just accept it. It happens to everyone. If men every truly understood women, the universe would likely end, or at the very least Elvis would return from the dead for a last concert with Jimi Henrix on guitar.

In my circles at that age, the line was 'God has someone better for you.' In both cases, the message has nothing to do with God or friendship. Move on. God has other women for you who don't just want to be friends.

What he said. One of the greatest lessons you can learn in life is that "why" doesn't matter in situations like this. "Is" trumps "why", and "why" won't change "is". Forget it and move on to more important things, like things you can actually change.

Didn't realize you were 16. Welcome to the "School of Relationship Hard Knocks"! I graduated summa CUM laude!

First off, I agree with the others...slow the alcohol consumption WAAAY down! You'll be paying for your own health care soon enough, and liver complications will keep you from making payments on your SLR!

If the girl is truly joining the Navy, then all she wanted was a casual evening out in the first place. A lot of guys don't take that well, so the "let's just be friends" line is usually the best way out...don't take it personally.

As far as being a nice guy? Don't hate yourself for that. While girls mature faster than guys, their tastes for men are pretty ridiculous at that age. Popularity and rebelliousness score points, so mostly jerks get the hotties.

When the biological clock goes from a tick to a BONG, girls are more sensible in their choice of a suitable mate.

Life has a way of putting things right with time.

I was the proverbial geeky, acne-infested nerd boy that couldn't buy a date in high school and college. But years later, I ended up marrying the hottie who was the cheerleader/athlete in high school and the sorority girl in college!

For now, I suggest casual dating, and expect no more than that, so that you won't set yourself for another disappointment.

Yep. By the way, you don't need to be a jock to get laid, but this whiny attitude doesn't usually attract the "friends with benefits" type of girls. Man Up!!

Don't turn into a drunk before college either.

PS: is it just me, or was everyone (except the don) else reading the title to this thread and thinking he got laid and THEN she wanted to be friends? (an all too common problem, much easier to deal with)

Girls are insane and may not even be human. This is not the only time your going to here that crap in your life so you might as well get used to it.
Girls seem to like a guy that partially ignores them. It seem that if your nice they walk all over you and if your kind of a dick then they LOVE you. I dont get it but it seems to work. Almost every woman I have dated wanted to get married so I must have been doing something right.

Nah, I caught that. If he had already had some action from the back section, he'd be bodymovin' and this thread would not be necessary (as you stated), IMHO.

Good luck Nate, and try not to drink more than 3 bottles of the Cap'n, lest you begin to resemble Davy Jones...

First of all, not all girls are into guys who get shatfaced at the drop of a hat. That may have been an issue. Secondly, everyone knows that the girls who work at Wendy's are a lot easier than those Catholic school-girl prigs who work at BK.

Don't try to understand girls they drive you nuts. Mine is currantly twisting the crap out of me, you should have heard me last night coming home from the casino after a lot of drinks. I sounded like such a depressed drunk!

Don't worry there are always other fish in the sea!

Now all you have to do is be a dick to her and she will fall in love all over again. Works every time! Or does it?

As a totally irrelevant aside, I am descended from a liason between Captain Henry Morgan and his black slave mistress.

I know how it feels...

I was in the exact same position. I told her I liked her, yadda yadda. She retorted with "I only go out with real close friends" and "I'm going to college soon"

I moved on; no need to waste time when their's other fish in the pond. But I still do talk to her sometimes. - Her College is less than an hours drive away.

I have always looked at these situations as
- You are moving to fast. She is not ready for commitment
- You are moving to slow. She is ready for commitment and you are not.

Which lane are you in?

1. The tendency of women to develop close friendships with their male acquaintances, thereby pre-emptively eliminating any possibility of a romantic relationship, the result of which is to remove the poor schmuck's heart and shred it
2. The process by which attractive and otherwise eligible women, when faced by proffered declarations of romantic interest by a male acquaintance, destroy the ego and spirit of said acquaintance by declaring that they only want to be "friends."

You mentioned....

At one point you asked if she felt guilty at all for doing this to you.

I would almost be sure of it. - she knew that what she said would break your heart, and was careful in her delivery because of it - yes, she does feel guilty.

No matter how old you are, or what the relationship is about, it ALWAYS takes 2 people to have a successful relationship...same for marraige, dating, friends with benefits...

...and if she wasn't willing to be in one with you, then you dont want to be in a relationship with her.

-John
