Please joint in the "Gas Out"

On May 15th, i am asking everyone not to purchase and fuel in protest of the high gas prices. No i did not just pick a date, but i've heard it threw the "grape vine" Prices are just ridiculous, and the oil company's are making such a profit.

so mark your calenders, put it in your cell phone, or in your PDA

NO GAS ON MAY 15th

Please don't fall for such nonsense. The only people this can hurt are the station owners and workers, who don't set the prices.

Now, refusing to drive a car on the 15th could make a difference.

The US imports over a million barrels of oil & petroleum products every dayfrom each of it's top 4 suppliers..and then a lot more..
From where? Check out the Feb. 2007 import list below.
http://www.eia.doe.gov/pub/oil_gas/petroleum/data_publications/company_level_imports/current/import.html

As Matt & others say, not buying gas for one day has absolutely no effect on anything..

Sooo - Maybe make one a WVO burner for those days he feels like giggling as he drives past the pumps.

Not filling up on any particular day will not impact your fuel usage. Using less fuel is the only thing that you can do that matters.

Do anything that will possibly help, but don't fall for nonsense that you read online. Not fueling on any particular day will do no harm to the oil companies at all.

As it is, I get fuel about once a week. What difference does it make if I refuel a day early or a day late? The answer should be obvious: absolutely none.

well i think i will join mamali in riding the old bike around i just dont understand why gas prices are so expensive. There is no "war" or "tsunami" to blame gas prices on....... so im wondering what the excuse will be this time just kinda PO'ed

No excuses needed. People keep buying it, so the price keeps going up. When you see people dumping their SUVs due to the price, it will have to come down. Until then, it won't.

I agree. Gas prices in So. Cal. are outrageous. Still, people keep buying their obscenely wasteful SUVs. I can understand it if you have lots of stuff to move around or if you have a big family. But about 90% of the SUVs I see on the road are single-occupancy.

Last summer I was able to convince my wife to give up her beloved Yukon and start driving the E320. Boy am I glad I did!

One question for you boys and girls (maybe I'll make this a separate thread).

With gas prices going through the roof, are you giving up something in order to save moeny for gas? Maybe postponing a major purchase? Trimming down
on vacation plans?

If gas prices keep going up, there will eventually be a negative impact on the economy. Most people can't afford to pay for the extra cost of gas AND still spend like they used to do before the gas price hikes.

We haven't given up anything...yet. But we are far more careful about making needless car trips and are going out to dinner less often. Not a big sacrifice yet...

Yes, but you are irrelevant. The question is whether SWMBO is happier. If not, you might not be having your nights set on fire. I had the wife gave up her Merkur Scorpio. She has gone thru a 201, 202 and now has a 210. However, she does mention it now and then. I was just tired of chasing parts that were obsoleted by Ford.

I wouldn't call it "going thru the roof". We go thru this same scene every year. We just roll with it. Already have it figured out into the finances. So, to answer your question, no. If needs be, I'll get a part time job bagging groceries during winter to make up for the gas increase but nothing yet planned.
