Well, you still didnt prove why you need an SUV. Considering what I tow with a full size, 1992 Chevy stepside stickshift 4WD with a -V6- you maybe need a mini truck. And it would help with the transition to a real vehicle from that grocery getter you got.

Hey,
The manufacturers make what the people want to buy. That's it. The "general consensus" is favorable toward the SUV. Even when the national average exceeds $3.00 per gallon, people do not care. Even if they can't afford it. They will still purchase these oversized guzzlers, even if there's no logic in it. I wish there were 90% less trucks on the road. I drive a car, I can't see around these behemoths through their heavily tinted rear glass or side glass. I can't see anything when I try to back out of the parking space when there are two vehicles surrounding my car with heights greater than 72 inches. Outrageous. AIA, I blame the people. They do not really care, else there would certainly be larger spreads and action regarding the issue. The oil companies are taking advantage of the greedy American consumer and reaping large profits while consumers blame the stations. They get away with it because we let them. |

Most towns that boomed in the middle of the last century are very car-centric. Urban planners did not foresee $4 gas.

The town's movers and shakers (and anyone with sufficient means) lived close to the center of town. Lawyers, doctors, bankers, etc., all had houses near the center of town. They could easily walk to work. As you moved out from the center, neighborhoods grew poorer and poorer until you got to the shanty towns in the outskirts of the city. Soon after the end of WWII, with military production being diverted to making more cars for the public's consumption, the old design model was turned on its head and downtowns fell apart with the poor moving in to the central area of the city. The middle class, and anyone who could qualify for a home loan under the GI Bill, moved to the suburbs. If you look at the history of Los Angeles, that is exactly what happened soon after the end of WWII. Things are changing, however. We have been looking for a place for our oldest daughter to live. She is got her head set on a downtown loft. We went looking for a place to buy (or more realistic at this point, rent). Buildings that had been previously been occupied by the homeless, by rats and by sweatshops are now being turned into "yuppie lofts." Moving back to the center of towns is the in thing to do.

I always thought that if I had my life to live again in the same times, I'd go to law school and move to FL and set up an estate tax practice in Naples FL. The FL bar has estate admin. locked up....and from the few estates I've seen handled there, they make mucho bucks. And let's face it, many estates are simple, especially where hubby is gone and the greiving widow is all alone with a giant portfolio. ![]() ![]() ![]() I was in Naples Fl two weeks ago for the first time (with the lady on the bike ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Here's a link to a law firm in our area in which almost all of the attorneys are also CPA's. They lecture to CPA's all the time and have a very sucessful practice. Whatcha gonna do when you get the CPA license? Would an LLM in taxation serve you better? http://www.kulzerdipadova.com/ This has nothing to do with the thread, the price of gas or the price of tea in China. Sorry for the detour. |

Like I also said. I have 3 larger dogs I take with me. It's either that or board them. We like their company so we take them. Even if we didn't, it would cost us to board them. This way, I leave them in the SUV and it idles there with the AC in the hot summer or cold winter. With the ATVs in the toy hauler, I weigh in at 16500. SUV is 8000. Can your V6 tow that much weight? 8500#? Up higher altitudes besides sea level? That is the sort of places we go to. Highest we have been is Bryce Canyon UT and going up scenic bypass 12 was a horrible trip. Came back and got a 7.3 diesel instead of a 5.3L truck. Bottom line was that it was either a 3/4 ton SUV or an 3/4 ton truck. Since the dogs would come along with us, an SUV would be better. But don't think the truck would get any better mileage because it probably won't. Only difference is that the truck would be more socially acceptable. Money wise it was a few hundred dollars different. Weighed against the comfort for the dogs, it was a no brainer. When your real vehicle shows up, let me know and I'll get my tow strap and give you a pull.

Still havent told me. A wife and 3 dogs require 7 seats? And remember to leave out the pansy stuff like enclosed trailer and protecting the poor dogs and outdoor riding equipment from harsh elements, we're talking necessity and practicality. One atv in the back a minimal trailer and an extended cab is all you need. Unless you're what you are. Which you've made clear. And the only reason you said a SUV is more socially acceptable.... is women. So, again with the what the hell ever, Georgie boy. Break out the loafers and hit the clubhouse. |
