There is an ex-girlfriend who has called me, for about the past 2-3 months, twice a week. She never speaks on the phone but has her friends call (I assume when they're drinking). The number always rings up as "restricted," meaning they're using *67. Is there any way I can stop this from happening short of changing my number? I called the desk sergeant and he said "protective orders" are issued for victims of domestic disturbance, sexual offenses, and stalking. I obviously don't think this falls under any of these, but I really want this to stop. When receiving calls from home the number shows up as restricted, so I can't just ignore all restricted calls. What do you guys/girls think I should do?

Harassing phone calls can be considered a terroristic threat and is a crime. First thing to do is contact your phone company. You may also have a feature that blocks anonymous calls. Hope this helps.

we used to have a shop on my buddies farm with an extension phone.his dad didn't like answering the phone for us all the time so we set it up that if someone wanted to talk to us to call and let the phone ring once and hang up and call back.then we knew it was for us.kindof an inconvenience but it worked.

change your number. i had a disgruntled co-worker do this same thing to me. exept, he called 300 times in a 2 hour period. i talked to the police and was told there was nothing they could do since it was on a cell phone calling my cell phone. if it had been my land line, that would have been a different story. they gave me a number to punch in and on the third time that number goes to the fbi

Yes, You can have her number blocked, so that no matter what she does, she can't get through. I would do it to her number, and all her friend's numbers, just to be safe. Some particular phones have the feature within' them..

Go to her number, in your phone's phone book, select it, choose "Options", select, "Block Number", or it might say "Block Contact". This will also block any text messages from the selected contacts/numbers you've chosen...Done...

Other times, in cases where your phone does not offer this feature, you can do it directly through your carrier...

My phone won't let me block a contact. Also, I've talked to the phone company and they said you can't block a number on a cell phone. That FBI thing sounds interesting. I'll call the desk sergeant tomorrow and see if there's anything I can do. This is getting embarrassing, especially when I am around other people. That's definitely a g/f that I could have done without.

Why do you have to answer restricted calls? I'd simply ignore any number that was no identified.

There must be some way to add his home number as a contact so that it shows up as "HOME" even if the number is restricted.

Check the inside of the phone book. I believe that after you get a call, you dial either *1157 or #1157. The caller's number gets stored in a database. Once enough have been stored, it rings a bell, and further action is taken. Plus, this way you have documentation - or at least the phone company does for you.

I had the same problem until I bought an inexpensive answering phone machine and screened the calls, it stopped shortly there after. Good luck that's a pain to have to go through.

Don't pick up the phone, just let it go into voice mail and if its important call them back.

I've had that type of problem in the past...

#1.) Call the phone company...mention the time and details of the call...they will advise you to file a complaint w/the police...

#2.) Then call the police...file whatever paperwork they require for harrassing phone calls...BTW, they will ask if you've already called your phone company (sorta' a "catch-22" scenario, if you will...) about the incident...advise them that they are already Step #2....

#3.) Once the police have the paperwork moving, you call the phone company back and then they advise you to keep track of the suspected phone calls...detailing when and at what time they came in...any conversation that ensued...and when the call terminated...keep a pad of paper near the phone...and remember...the more details...the better!

#4.) Once you get a call, immediately contact the phone company with the details...they'll retrieve their data...if it matches, they then contact the authorities, the authorities will contact the offenders...

#5.) You may (or maybe not) get a call from the DA's office...if you do, they'll ask if you "...want to file a complaint at this time?" They'll may give some details (such as; who called you...if they're sorry, blah, blah, blah...) to see if you want to follow through on prosecuting them or not...

Usually, at this time, the offending party doesn't like knowing there's more than one person involved in their little "joke" and a reasonable nutcase will back off...the key word here is "reasonable" - only you know what that entails...

Good luck getting that nutcase out of your hair and better luck to the next one that gets her!

How to use


" 1. Hang up after answering the call.

2. Pick up the receiver and listen for the dial tone, then press *57 on a tone dialing phone or, dial 1157 on a rotary phone or cordless phone.

3. Wait and a voice message will tell you if your call has been successfully traced.

4. Record the time, date that the trace was activated, and write down everything you can remember about the call.

5. Report the harassing and obscene calls to the police."

Terroristic threat Most all states have telephonic harassment/stalking laws. Misdemeanor. Doesn't sound like you will make the burden of proof though. Just pay $3/month or whatever to block anonymous calls.
