Unless you follow Malthus, in which case we were all supposed to be dead a hundred years ago.

Good thing that wishing it to happen doesn't make it so.

It's no stretch to conclude that us humanoids have altered and are altering many of the various balances which have existed in the natural world for a long time.

There's not much to be said for going off half cocked and succumbing to fear and paralysis but dismissing the concerns of the many, many people who have been watching this situation unfold as mere 'fear-mongering' is not accurate, IMO.

Figure it out. Ehrlich was way off on the timing but current events do not make him look like some loose cannon. Death by starvation is only going to increase in the near future.

The carnage in Rhwanda and currently in Kenya and Darfur had/have a lot to do with overpopulation, IMHO.

Just put your fingers in your ears and keep repeating that loudly.

Fresh water is becoming more and more scarce -- soils are exhausted in wide swaths of the world.

When some of the aquifers here and in China, for example, that are being emptied at relatively rapid rates (relative to how long it will take them to recharge), start to give off some serious hiccups, Ehrlich is going to suddenly start looking like a visionary.

Only 3 things are for certain:
It'll either get warmer
Or it'll get colder
Or it'll stay the same

I'll not panic until one of the 3 happen.

Where have our basic values gone? We seem to have lost the ethic of conservation. ie., things your parents used to tell you, and that their parents used to tell them. I'm talking family values here, stuff we grew up hearing but seem to have forgotten.

Don't waste water
Use only what you need
Turn off the lights
.
.
.
etc.

Although I think that even if we keep up as we are it won't make a difference in 50 years. Maybe 2-300 years if we keep going as we are, but by then we will hopefully be using bio fuels and nuclear power for our electricity and transportation. At the rate we are building new nuclear power plants and bio refineries it will take 300 years before they can take the place of petroleum.
I am simply saying that global warming is just something people point at, and yell about. I was expanding the topic to say, even if global warming is just some cyclic phenomena characteristic of this planet, we need to evaluate how we do everything.

Not all of our resources are renewable (most aren't). Oil, coal, natural gas are closely tied into our daily lives. Clearly, they are finite. What happens when we run low on one or all of them? It's going to happen, all people can do is argue about when.

There is no single answer to what to do. There are a lot of smaller solutions; I believe that we'll need everything we can get, as soon as we can. Just for the sake of this environment in which we have to live.

Keep the discussion going!

But what if the Rapture (TM) occurs before we run out of oil, coal, natural gas and fish?
