The whole school district down here would be in detention -- these Cajuns are the huggingest people I've ever seen. More than Mexicans and Eye-talians.

“Displays of affection should not occur on the school campus at any time. It is in poor taste, reflects poor judgment, and brings discredit to the school and to the persons involved.”
Would someone explain the above sentence to me ? Apparently, emotion is not allowed at that school.

My four year old displays his affection toward me by wrestling. Knowing that kids do this, the school district decided to ban all outward showing of emotion just in case someone could get hurt.

Yes. That's it.

Scenario 1:

Two 16 yr old boys try our for the HS football team. Upon finding out they made the team, they congratulate teach other by shaking hands.
Show of affection? No way.

Scenario 2:

Two 16 yr old girls try out for the cheerleading team. Upon finding out they made the team, do they shake each other's hands? Of course not. They would do like most teen age girls do, maybe give each other a little "hug" of some sort.
Show of affection? Gimme a break.

As the father of two former, (thankfully) teenage girls, I'd have gone ballistic if this happened to one of them.

Stupid rules written by stupid people with way too much time on their hands. Do what you're paid to do... educate.; !!

District Superintendent Sam McGowen said that he thinks the penalty is fair and that administrators in the school east of St. Louis were following policy in the student handbook.

It states: “Displays of affection should not occur on the school campus at any time. It is in poor taste, reflects poor judgment, and brings discredit to the school and to the persons involved.”
Another example of a DF attaining a position of authority. Sad to say that it's becoming pervasive.

That school staff should now fear justified RETALIATION from the students. Every student has the ability to capture a teacher or school administrator giving another staff member a hug or sign of affection, because every student has a PHONE CAM. How many times have we seen teachers behaving badly on YOU TUBE? Plenty... Not a good idea to force stupid ideas on a large watching community like this. Paybacks are ...

It's moronic all right. But quit blaming the teachers. The education system is a product of it's society. This kind of stupidity probably results from the concern of the district to not wind up being sued for harassment by some or other litiguous idiot. I work for a school district and for my pains I have to attend each of our school boards sessions every fortnight. I'm continuously stunned by the amount of legal bs that they have to consider in terms of what constitutes acceptable behaviour. Issues which would never even arise if people were not such damned morons.

I'll bet (and I'm shooting deep into the dark) that it's a homophobic thing.

Schools have to treat everybody equally. Boys & girls hug, girls hug girls ... homos hug? Heaven help us, ... NO I SAY!

So they can't make a rule saying homos can't hug because that's clearly discriminatory. So what do we do?

Don't let anybody hug anybody. Problem solved.

All those kids should walk out of class in protest, and try to get that idiot fired. Or if all the parents got involved they could probably oust them.

I had a professor awhile back who was from Argentina or Chile I forget, but she said students down their are very well organized. When something dumb is done by the staff they will protest, all the students will simply walk out and march and shut the school down until an agreement can be reached. Since my school has its fair share of BS she was surprised that American students are not as well organized and don't take action.

Students in France are well organized too, they have lots of walk-outs.

My kids can protest anything they want -- on their own dime. If I'm paying they get to STFU and go to school.
