what the hell? while i am so very proud of you for having the tidiest little binder the ins had ever seen, all my original post said was that it was taking forever for my friend to deal with all of the paperwork and bureaucracy to bring his romanian wife (who he married in romania) over here legally. it is my beef that your pedantic and erroneous reply contributed nothing to the thread and served no purpose other than to try and invalidate my casual statement.

and the i-92 form is irrelevant and unnecessary in this case.

my tone was left over from responding to jim b., nothing personal. you will have better luck with the natives here i am sure (i am a transplant). after all, tourism supports the city and most everyone knows that.

So go re read my posts again, there was PLENTY of valid and pertinent information in there, that was given gratis for you and your friend - even though all you were doing was whining about the paperwork and the time.

..And all you can do is flame me. You are getting off to kind of shaky start for a n00b with your insults to myself and WVO and his wife, if you ask me..

Oh well. Dorothy Parker said "No good deed shall go unpunished"

Your tone seems to have been noted by OTHERS to be arrogant, and sarcastic, and so you got (rightly) hoisted on your own petard.

So deal with it.

Goes in the "Not My Problem" box now. buh bye.

man, i'm glad i have a diesel and don't have to put up with your self righteous bs on a regular basis. your initial tone was hardly one of charity, so don't backpedal now with that gratis crap. i was simply trying to add something to the discussion, hardly whining...and the fact that i am a "n00b" as you so script-kiddyly put it here on the site holds little water in an open discussion forum. if you don't know the laws or the current state of immigration in this country, then you probably should refrain from involving yourself in discussions about them. but you are probably an expert in those, as you are in mercedes, and everything else in the world. yawn. plenty of people like that on the ducati forums, and the bmw forums too. you guys should all start your own forum for cool people where no one is ever a "n00b" and everyone knows everything about everything. you wouldn't even have to post!

and don't try and make my comment to WVO out to be an insult to him or his wife. it was not.

Rough times here ...

Legal immigration is not as simple as it used to be, 10, 20 or even 30 years ago. Esp. marriage based immigration as gotten substantially tougher.
For anyone to say, to master legal immigration 'even without an immigration attorney', is pretty foolhearted. Too many traps.

Particularly difficult are cases where the marriage took place abroad, possibly in a country with restrictions.

Also, nowadays, for such marriages, the burden of proof that the marriage was not undertaken for immigration purposes, lies entirely with the applicant. Good Luck!

Funny how the world changes. Thirty years ago newspapers were delivered by young teenagers on bicycles. I had 35 customers on my route and was also responsible for collecting the money every other Saturday. I did it for three years rain, snow or shine. I had to learn how to keep records (accounts receivables), deal with tardy payers and to make sure I had someone to back me up if I went on vacation. My customers always got their Norwalk Hour.

This job taught me and countless other boys (and later girls) valuable lessons as a 14 year old. Plus the daily 5 mile bike ride in hilly southern Connecticut kept me in pretty good shape.

Now back to the immigrant issue.

Yes. If you take away the freebies such as health care and schooling, make it prohibitively expensive (in dollars or other sanctions) for employers to hire them or landlords to rent to them, and round them up and send them back -- in other words, no new laws, just *enforcement of the existing ones* -- there'll be far less incentive for them to sneak in here.

Take away the game show prizes ("You're a winner! You swam the Rio Grande safely! Johnny, tell 'em what they've won!") and the contestants will stop coming.

When did paperboys on bicycles disappear? Why did they disappear? You had 35 customers, I wonder how many customers these guys who zoom around in their cars have.

You are going to need new laws to make it prohibitively expensive for employers to hire them. Of course some sort of provision has to be made where if the employer clears it with USCIS, unless he faked some documents or didn't do something right, he should not be screwed. As to landlords, WGAS? If they don't have money, I don't think the landlord will want to rent to them anyways.

Why would they be here if you take away the financial incentive?

Could not have said it better myself.

No freebies, no incentives, no illegal immigration (from anywhere in the world). Also, while we are at it, let's change that idiotic rule that children of people who are here illegally (or even visiting) automatically get U.S. citizenship.

I've read about Korean and Taiwanese "agencies" that make it easy for pregnant, soon-to-give-birth women, tro come to the U.S., have their babies here, and then claim U.S. citizenship for their offsprings. What a scam on the American public!
