No harm, quite the opposite. Things like that need explaining and I deal with it so frequently that I made an unrealistic assumption concerning general knowledge.

Possible good news for beavers!

I heard that placing an 8" pvc pipe at ground level through and through the dam will defeat the most industrious of beavers. It seems they understand dam wall leakage but the idea of an extension into the pond and out of the pond is a just way too complex for Mr Castor. What I don't know is how many joints are necessary.

Anybody else heard of this solution?

Cheaper than a night scope. OTOH, I think a night scope is way, cool. I'm still not ready for the suppressor. I have a suspicion that BATF would frown mightily.

Are you thinking of making a siphon?

Been there. Done that.

We’ve pushed 10’ long 6" steel pipe through dams with a tractor. They couldn’t figure it out, and the slow drain rate gave them time to just move on.

Another trick we’ve done is to simply pour a gallon or two of bleach on top of their lodge/den. That has also forced a few to move on.

Whenever those tricks failed….we got out the Victor #330 conibear traps. That ends the problems pretty quick.

Then I don't follow why you would need joints or elbows in the pipe.

I meant, "how many lengths of pipe per dam perforation site?" Sorry for the confusion.

Now, you've gone from "Mighty Hunter" or "Rambo" to "Industrial Worker Dude"...too bad you don't get paid like a plumber!

At least you avoid one/all of the State/Federal alphabet "experts"...and a chance at an "official" letter of hilarity!

I did a beaver search and found an excellent site under the title of "contolling beaver damage". It details, pipe configurations, traps and shooting tips.

Hmmmm.....how complicated do you want to make it?
http://www.lmnoeng.com/Pipes/hds.htm

If you can give me an approximate location - I could approximate the drainage area and guess at the stream discharge (Q). Hell, you could have those beavers confused even in the event of of a 100yr storm event if you want.

Or just shove a bunch of 12" pipes in using the trial and error method.

I can't believe I didn't think of that. I'll check to see if USGS has a gage on the stream. Duh-oh!

Mean is 120 cfs, annual high is 400. We get about 50 inches of rain/year, mostly in late spring through summer. I have seen evapotranspiration tables but damned if I know where.

Drainage area is probably 800 acres or more of very deep, sandy soil so rain penetrates very quickly. Most of the 800 acres is in timber, though there are a few small farms, pastures, and gravel roads. There are also several farm ponds on intermittent tributaries.

Work your magic on that!
