Thank you. That's working. I'll have to make that exercise a habit.
I'm also experimenting with keeping my wrist on a folded cloth while using the mouse to keep the wrist raised from the desk surface so the hand isn't forced backwards somewhat when resting the wrist on the desk.

If you are worried about the Ibuprofen, TAKE IT WITH FOOD. You don't want a GI bleed. You also cannot stop it like that. Take it till it stops hurting, then splint and then figure out what you are doing (might be repetitive motion) that is causing it.

Is it possible that it is carpel tunnel syndrome? If so it will be worse at night and the last two digits will not be painful when someone taps on the palmer side of the wrist. (tinel sign)

BTW, this is from a NP not some clown at the keyboard (me).

Sometimes an inflammatory problem is your body's way of telling you that you pushed your luck too far, too long. Take a good long look at your general health and make the changes that you should have made some time back.

Read about C-reactive protein (CRP), maybe a bellweather.

I consider myself in pretty good shape for my age,,, 62. Not overweight, I can still see my feet, bellybutton, and that ain't all. Wear the same size clothes I did 30 years ago. BP is 130 over 80, work out 5 to 6 times a week,,, and eat right most of the time. I do push the limits at times in at work as far as lifting and twisting in ways that I really shouldn't do. I hope that is all it is, and I vow to never do it again. That was some pretty intense pain.

I have recrring bouts of tendonitis in my elbows. It seems to go back and forth from left to right. Not sure how I came to have it in the first place. I just take Ibuprophen when it starts to hurt. It snver seems to go away competely, though.

Good luck CMAC, the combination of the IB and the wrist strap will alleviate the symptoms quickly...don't sweat it and listen to your doctor.
Thanks bro. I'm telling you, I was thinking real hard on going to the math teacher option for a while (2 more years of college -- oh well, there is the babe factor In fact, I really ought to look seriously at that). It was painful to throw wadded up paper into the trash with my right arm there for awhile.

I use the mouse with my left hand now, I could really feel it starting to hurt when I'd use my right hand. Typing doesn't seem to bother it. My doctor doesn't think it's carpal tunnel however.

I bought a jumbo Walgreens bottle of Ib., 200 mg is all you can get, and four of those go down easier than the big horse pills. I'm going back to three 800mg. doses a day w/o fail. Only about $.36 a day, so not bad.

I'm going to check out the wrist strap you mentioned.

And, I'm going to be a nail pounder til I die.

Yeah, right.

Be my guest, as if I have anything to say about it anyway. I've had the stiff neck thing now and then and it's a serious drag. Once, I would go into spasms when I'd lift my head off the pillow. I think it was cause I had been carrying a sorta heavy back pack with only one strap over the shoulder.

I also cut way back on the weight in my carpentry bags. Lotta pull on the (on hell, what are those tendons tween the neck and shoulder?)

Also, I've been having a pain in my left shoulder upon awakening. I think I might have a habitual posture during sleep that compresses it or something. Don't know how to change that outside of being strapped down.

If you take IB for a long time make sure they run a Hepatic panel every six months. IB can be hell on your liver.

I took a high dose of it at my doctor's recommendation and had to back off becasue it made me sick to my stomach.

Did you eat before you took it? At high levels you are supposed to.

Carl, you're a contractor, right? Is there a certain job you do repetitively? I'd second Howie's advice of daily stretching and massaging your forearm, that can help loads. When I was doing contracting work and when I do renos now, I try and alternate hands as much as I can, with plenty of stretching and breaks once in a while. Prevention goes a long way I think.

Trades work can be hell on the body, especially if you are doing the same thing - in the same manner - day in and day out. Takes a toll.

I think the bottom line is you need to find out what is causing the inflammation on that arm and try to reduce or eliminate that cause - either with braces, using the other arm or a different technique. Good luck!

Unfortunately, this is the main course I'm going to have to take. I actually sorta like hard work, as long as I have a bit of control over the job, which I do now, but my right hand is always getting overworked. Even simple stuff, like putting in an electrical box -- twisting wire nuts tight and cramming wires in puts a lot of stress on the hand and wrist.

I've got to slow down and pursure new career paths.

Thanks. These days, I'm a small contractor, frequently a one-man band. I need to graduate to running a crew. I have the knowledge for it, it's just all the other crap that goes with it, paper work, taxes, health care, workman's comp, etc. What a maize.

Oh well . . . other people pull it off.
