As to 21 bullets, depends on the locations of the wounds. Head shots have a much higher mortality rate.

And the size/age does make a difference to me.

I hope I would jump in there and do something.
Might as well be on PCP. He was deranged. He actually thought he was performing an exorcism on the child by beating the devil out of it.

Yes but do you think he is going to stand there while you take a deep breath, exhale half of it out, take aim and squeeze the trigger? Those were cops that were shooting at the guy on PCP and they take more target practice that you or I probably do and even then, they had a hard time making a head shot.

I look at it as a life. No more or less than any other.

With all the liability and nonsense that goes on today, I would have a hard time doing something like that for someone I didn't know.

Mr. CCW also knows that the child-beater might be carrying
If Mr. CCW had a firearm, could he have fired a "warning shot" or brandished his weapon (?) to get the beater's attention - thats all we wanted in the first place anyway. "warning shots" are not in any police/law enforcement doctrine, but Mr. CCW is not a cop - just a dude who wanted to stop something from happening. In this case, Mr. CCW might get a ticket/night in jail for discharging a firearm in a place where it is illegal to do so (many communities/townships...) but if it were that or the life of the child, I'd do it. easy for me to say now that its all over...

interesting...

I would have gotten as close as possible and put a .38 hollow point in his head. Just get as close as you dare and pull it at the last minute, he won't have time to react and I don't care what drugs you are on if your brain gets vented you die.

Save the kid, all the legal BS will sort itself out later. No jury is going to do anything to you for that.

How close would you dare to get to someone in that state? I'd be leery to be within 10 feet never mind sneaking up with a gun.

Yes, no jury will convict you but you still will have to go thru the entire legal system. There will be questions, forms, etc, etc. IOW 1 big hassle. That is asking a lot for a stranger.

I wouldn't be able to sleep at night knowing I didn't try to help, you can't put a price on peace of mind.

I'd get pretty damn close, I'm not pro but I can hit a head from 10ft away. let him come at me, I'll get him.

I have limits for a stranger. If it is the wife or our kids, no problem. Somebody I don't know and I have to go thru all that mess, it would be a very tough sell.

Don't overestimate your skills when you are in a high adrenaline situation. Just because you can pop beer cans at 100 yards don't mean jack when you are in a desperate situation like such.
