It be snowing . . .
. . . in New Orleans of all places. So much for Mr. Gore and his global warming, I suppose.
The times snow has been sighted here in my lifetime: January 1964 January 1973 Dec. 1983 or Jan. of 1984 December 1989 (three days before Xmas -- and the stuff stayed on the ground for three days, because the air temp never rose above freezing) Christmas Day 2004 So it's never been this early, even this wet stuff. It's accumulating on the grass, though. I'm telling all the locals who are prone to panic that the world is not ending, that this white stuff falls frequently on Planet Earth. (I'm not sure they believe me, though.) .

Back in '89, after I got home that day (2 hours fighting idiots who couldn't realize they had to slow down while driving in snow), I let my Maine Coon Arizona out onto the tiny patio. "Come on, buddy, this is like your ancestral homeland." He wandered around, turning his head up to the flakes and letting them land on his nose. His paws apparently weren't cold, thanks to the tufts of fur underneath that his breed of cat has. He was having a grand time.
I got cold before he did and brought us both back inside. .

Lack of snow removal equipment kinda has a way of paralyzing the town, doesn't it?

Deep water is a lot worse. I'd far rather have snow. .

Some time after my lil' bro moved down to Pensacola, they had some sort of freaky snow...and apparently it was cool enough they were experiencing icy intersections and the like...
Being from the nort' he had a clue as to how to drive in the stuff, but he had to call me to tell me about two folks he watched try to leave an intersection as if everything was normal...they spun their tires to the point that they overheated and exploded off the rims...one tire actually started on fire and the car ended up being a total loss...they couldn't get the fire truck to the scene fast enough because of the icing and such... I don't see much difference up here during the first/second snow of the season...everyone has a learning curve they have to negotiate and it turns out that regardless where you live...there's always going to be someone that does not have the slightest inkling of a clue as to what to do... I like to think that I'm smart enough to be off the streets during those periods...but, duty calls and I get to drive through the best of times and the worst of times...I just hope I don't get to BE those times.

It snowed hard here outside of Houston yesterday; three of my employees had never seen snow before. Ever. Anywhere.
