Lets strap two of these ( http://www.sr-71.org/blackbird/j-58/ ) to something and see what happens...

It occurs to me that so much cold air is hitting those wings, and continually renewed at uh, rapid speed, such that any added heat might just disspate so fast as to hardly have any effect on ice build up, unless your had more BTUs available than is practical.

The only thing I can think of is having heated liquid circulated through thin walled stainless tubing under the wings skin, kind of like radiant heat flooring. Make it operate off electical power generated from the magnets within the jet engine, like the Williams jet engines have.

You would have to compensate for the weight of the liquid, and barring any air within the system, there shouldn't be any "sloshing" of the liquid to upset the balance of the plane.

I wouldn't want to use heated wiring within the wings due to possible shorting of the electrical system, which would allow gravity to eventually take over on the plane, leading to a crater in the earth.

How about redirecting some of the hot high velocity jet blast through thin-walled ceramic tubing. As the gases cool from radiative heating on the leading edge they will create a low pressure exhaust side that could bleed off the trailing edge.

Isn't that kinda the theory of a Scram or Ram Jet?
