1966 Tempest Pontiac. I took the badges off so people would think that it was a GTO.

Another crazy thing I remember about the car is that it had a glass bottle of blue liquid held in a clip under the hood for mixing with water to make windshield washer fluid... My first car was a 1971 Ford Maverick, 200 CID inline 6, 115 HP. I tried everything I could think of to make that car cooler - sport steering wheel, glass pack muffler, stuff like that. As the kids would say today, it was "epic fail"... ![]() I inherited the car from my father but I paid for all insurance, fuel and maintenance. The car lasted for a few years until a carload of kids in a huge Thunderbird pulled out in front of me and I creamed them going about 50 MPH...

I feel so old!
First was a hand-me-down 1960 Full size Ford Fairlane 500. That car had acres of hood which extended way off to the right. Car defined the term understeer. First car I bought with my own money was a '64 Falcon Sprint Convert. Looks like I have always been an iconoclast--Falcon was a mom and dad car with weak 6cyl. The Sprint was the V8 powered version. Competitor to the Coravir Monza and Spyder.

My first was a '73 Chrysler Newport Custom. 400 with a 2bbl. 11.5 mpg and not very fast. And it was green with green interior and green vinyl top. It lasted about a year before I dislodged the oil pan going too fast over some railroad tracks.
My second car, and the first one I bought with my own money was a '72 Mercury Montego. This was the Mercury version of the Torino. Think Starsky and Hutch. Mine had a 351 Windsor and was actually pretty fast after I did a few minor modifications.

Wasn't the Chrysler Newport know as a Land Yacht?

One of my favorite pictures is in the April 1964 Motor trend Car of the Year issue. They gave the COTY to the entire FoMoCo line-up, Total performance, including a great write on the Falcon Sprint Convert.
But the awesome picture is a Chrysler Imperial coming over the crest of a small hill at WOT with ALL 4 WHEELS off the ground. That's about 6000 pounds, airborne.

1957 Chevy. Funky Blue color called "Tropical Torquoise". It was very low miles when I got it (1972) at under 20k as I recall. What a fun party car that was. Being a typical teenager, I decided to remove the perfectly smooth running 265 V8 & replace it wit a 327 from a 1963 Impala.
Those were some fun times! |

I always thought that the Opel looked like a mini Corvette.

1959 Peugeot 403, a sedan version of the car Columbo drove. I sold it to a hitch hiker I picked up and bought a Jag XK120.

It's halfway down the driveway of old Chetwynd Apts., east of campus near County Line Road, right on the Pike, high on the hill on the right hand side. Junior Year.
