Honestly, i feel that as long as sex addiction is accompanied by an addiction to using condoms, it's a harmless addiction.

i dont' doubt the severity of the situations you described; i just question the labeling of it as an "addiciton". having been addicted to a few things myself, i am well aware that to deal with the "addiciton" itself is pointless; trying to cure symptoms while not addressing the core illness is like putting a bandaid on a broken bone. obviously, these people are severely depressed, and/or bipolar and/or borderline personality or ptsd.

and my question about the twelve step nature of the treatment was, honestly, a bit rhetorical.

dr.drew, chief propagandist for the " recovery" industry, has been pushing twelve step for sex addicts ( and gamblers, and everything else) for quite a while now. he's a true believer (and opportunist) and fits well into the cult's desire to convert anyone, through any "addiction" (and cure ) they can create. remember: you will find (at hazelden) a one month inpatient program (and "aftercare", of course) for adult grandchildren of alcoholics. go figure.

aa groups obviously differ - in terms of members - from place to place; the philosophy is the same, the methods of indoctrination are the same, and the damage they do to people who have drug and alcohol problems is, sadly... the same.

I have been sober and content in AA for nearly 20 years.

I do agree with you that AA members can mistakingly create cults, and make all kinds of other mistakes.

But so do all other human beings.

I understand I can't save the world from itself but I can be there for people with real problems.

If I can make a difference in someones life, I'll do it.

All I'm saying is, it is real when someone is balling their eyes out in a group because they're reaching out for help.

I personally was getting addicted to chasing the women and the adrinelin rush of catching them.

I was more addicted to the emotions and the life than the actuall sex.

is going on, here? I
can't for the life of me
kick the alcohol habit.

But, I'm really trying to
recognize I have a problem and
extradite steps to correct mine
and my friend's drunken,
troubled behavior.
