Russian Patrol vehicle. I like the belly wheels but don't know much more beyond the fact that it has a SAM variant.

If you fire a .50 caliber machine gun at the left front wheel, it will pierce the thin skin in the wheelwell and kill the driver, thus disabling the vehicle.

would be bad to have to drive around town or off road though...

Assuming that you had a .50 on you at the time to fire at it.... From what i'm reading that would penetrate it's armor but most other small arms wouldn't. One would probably have to hope that it's not firing it's own machine gun back at you (Depending on the model) The round that it commonly is armed with is no joke...

Most modern US infantry units have something to deal with a BRDM: .50 cal, TOW, LAW, ATM. A 25mm chain gun on a Bradley will chew it up fairly well also. Of course, an M1 tank main gun will make a smoking pile of junk pretty quickly out of one of these. Cool thing is, a M1 main gun, and a TOW can reach out a long way and smack this guy.

Don't get me wrong; I would not want my ass in the grass facing one of these without anything heavier than 7.62 at my disposal. You'd have to be pretty creative to get rid of one without a heavier weapon, but all in all, they are light weight critters, not made for standoffs against infantry or armor with strong weaponry. Great for oppressing the masses, though....

14.5 is a cool machine gun, almost as good as the US M2, Mr. Browning's baby...

Pretty much true of any light infantry carrier but I think it must be noted that the BRDM has armor plating of some sort compared to most Humvee's. I don't really think the US fields anything that is on par with the BRDMs (Correct me if i'm wrong) One would think that the next comparison would be the M113 but then the Russians also had the BMP and BTR series.

I think the design of the BRDM is much more in line with European vehicles then American ones.

Marines Grizzly is a wheeled vehicle, as is the Army Stryker. Different class of vehicle though.

I was thinking about the Stryker but that is a relatively new vehicle that is more in line with the BTR series.

Actually more in line with the BTR-90.

As people start making more vehicle variants, some types of new vehicles have waek points which are the design sacrifices made to do other things. Sacrifice protection for speed.

Look at the Russian SPM-3 which is very fast but very lightly armored, relatively speaking.

You could buy your own Barrett Light-50 and penetrate with it. But you better be a good shot because they would see you PDQ.

Suggestion: always keep a TOW or a couple RPG rounds handy as back-up.

BTW will try to find a good pic of the SPM 3.

I could tell you lots but there are so many different variants. I like the flexibility of these vehicles in an urban setting. BTW how do you get the large size photos inside the posting? Every time I try it the system says the file is too large?
