IT Deadliest Roads

Any one watch the India episode? I am not convinced there is enough money for me to do that. The roads are insane and the drivers are absolutely nucking futz. Never seen driving in India before and that is utter chaos.

They said that on the road between Delhi and the hydro dam over 180,000 people a year die. That's on one stretch of road. Absolutely nuts.

This is typical in Asia. It's nothing to be in a traffic jam in China..finally drive by the impact car causing the jam...and see that the driver has stopped to let his daughter/wife,get out and pee.
India and Thailand have the added obstacles of cattle roaming the roads.
While the roads in Singapore are all top-notch, the drivers do whatever they feel like doing, an American just wants to slap them.
And no-one gives a crap about an unfortunate motor-bike rider, they see him crash and burn-and dont even blink-just keep on cruisin.
Once as a passenger, I saw a guy on a scooter get creamed by a truck. I asked my wife (who has lived here all of her life) 'What about this accident"? She simply said 'Forget about him, he is probly dead..nothing can do now'

I believe we're slowly devolving toward the same bottomless pit.

It's quite often that a vehicle passes me doing well over 100 mph in heavy traffic..........bobbing and weaving using all three lanes to get to his destination five minutes faster.

There is no law enforcement.............this is your future.

I thought drivers in New York and DC were bad.

I had no idea it can get worse!

Cairo, Egypt is insane also. Normal for a car on the far right of 5 lanes (s/b three) to make a left hand turn across all the traffic going both ways.....

Imagine New Jersey roads overlaid on more dramatic topography and you would have this show.

I liked how the truck drivers were paid based on a safe delivery but the bus drivers were paid based on their speed. Needless to say the buses were driving pedal to the metal.

Worst place I ever drove was in Poland (still have night mare about that place) but that crap in India was just terrifying. The city driving was just chaos but the mountain road was just utterly insane. Sheer drop offs, precarious over hangs, bridges that are way past their life span, no guard rails. I could not do that. I know if that is all you know it i just like walking.... you just do it. When there are close to 200,000 deaths on that one road in a year something needs to be done. It's a shame they don't have the finances to do so.

This is no different than driving with the NYC taxis............the guy with the bigger set gets the right of way.

I once challenged a taxi on the 59th street bridge. DB was behind me and decided to move left and try to get one vehicle ahead before the lanes merged. We smacked mirrors before he gave up. Fortunately for me, I was slightly behind his mirror and the SDL's mirror folded nicely rearward and immediately returned to it's designed position.

There was a merging lane here CA that nearly led to that. She wanted to do a quick pass thinking her Infiniti has more power and can cut me off but I saw that coming and blocker her off just in time for her to realize there's a metal barrier already in front of her, so she slammed on the brakes and followed behind me.

Overpopulation (of vehicles) is what causes this, from what I've seen anyway.

Absolutely untrue.

Stupidity causes this.

A freeway can handle every single vehicle at 45 mph that it currently handles at 5-10 mph. In fact, it can handle significantly more vehicles.

The problem, very simply, are the DB's and people who don't understand the ramification of hitting the brakes. They cause the accordion effect that will stop the traffic at that specific point for several hours.

You may notice, on rare occasions, that the traffic is very heavy but moving at 50 mph..........and does not stop. This is a very tenuous situation and it only takes one DB to upset the finely tuned system.

If the drivers were educated and not DB's, traffic problems would not exist.

I am not sure what part you are talking. Sure the scenes in down town Delhi could be close to what is in NYC although when I was there I do not recall it being that way. The dirt road going to the damn is not something I recall ever seeing any where in the US. I do not recall ever reading or hearing of a single stretch of road in the US where close to 200,000 people were killed in accidents.
