True, I'm just used to american Catholics (like my family) who ignore most of the silly stuff. The world would probably be better off without them.

I don't have much doubt about that on this topic. How many people have died of AIDS in Africa as a result of the RC pushing it's anti-condom policy there? How many women have died as a result of unwanted pregnancies since they can't use birth control. How many women have been put on trial in RC countries for getting abortions? How many gay people have been denied satisfying sexual lives and relationships? How many guilty subversive acts of sex have been engaged in by priests who think celibacy is better but who cant' contain themselves?
What can be more 'Big Brother' than the Pope himself squirming his way into the mind of every Catholic teenager the first time they masturbate?
The Catholic church does a lot of good things, but their social and political policies in this area are about as anti-humanist as they come. And it really irks the bejesus out of me that they defame the name of Aristotle by claiming his authority on this question when he spent a substantial portion of his life living with his girlfriend once his wife died.

didn't aristotle like the young boys also?

anyway, the church only does "good deeds" as p.r. see mother teresa, who only was interested in baptizing the dying, collecting money for rome, and throwing a few crumbs to everyone else. see christopher hitchens' book about her. or the bbc program.

Agreed about Teresa, I liked Hitchen's book. However, there are a lot of decent Catholics involved in enterprises without just doing PR for the hierarchy. For instance, Fr. Arizemndiaretta (sp) the founding intellect of the Mondragon Cooperatives was a remarkable human being. And, as Craig said, most US Catholics don't believe anything like the official party line when it comes to sexuality.

yes but u.s. catholics are a small (and shrinking) minority of the catholic church. i believe africa is the new growth area, so the anti-condom message goes out to the countries most ravaged by hiv/aids. (perhaps a levitating saint can help all the infected?)

Not sure what the CC's position would be. Priest on top or Boy on top. Maybe the doggy style? Or maybe the boy kneeling in front of the priest?

Wrong again. It is "education" from the more experienced to the less experienced. Hand holding if you will

Yet the Pope still holds that it is morally impermissible for an HIV infected husband to use a condom to stop his wife from getting AIDS.
His comments are a significant shift in what he said during a trip to Africa in March last year, when he caused international outcry by saying the disease was a tragedy ‘that cannot be overcome through the distribution of condoms, which even aggravates the problems’.

Sure thing Dr Benedict XVI. What other sage medical advice does he have?

Moral? What know him of moral? What did his kind do with Cardinal Law for his lies? The Catholic Shuffle. Sorry, what happened to standing up and admitting what wrong you did and take responsibility and punish those who perpetrated it? Law might as well have raped the kids himself.

WOW. That's certainly well said and mature.

It's just one reason why you guys don't see me here very much anymore. I used to post several times a day and most conversations were very enjoyable-- heck, sometimes we even talked about cars! When some of us did disagree, most comments were at least respectful. That was a few years ago. Not so anymore.

Last week I was stumbling upon posts by members talking about oral sex with menstruating women. This place has really has taken a dive.

Too bad. If you followed the thread, you'd be the ideal person to defend RC policy. I'm curious as to your opinion about Africa, AIDS and condoms as well as other elements in the thread.
It's not as if the Pope didn't ask for this kind of ridicule.

The 'Diesel Forum' is a pretty valuable resource and even some topics on 'OD', but I never refer family members to Peach Parts or go to this site when using a family member's computer and always felt a warning necessary when I referred others who might benefit. from the Diesel section. Even though no one's necessarily bashing my beliefs, it's the same clique bashing someone's beliefs instead of a thoughtful discussion.

I can't remenber who said it on this forum recently, but someone refered to open discussion as the "trash bin"

No prohibition on contraception that I'm aware of. Islamic theories of sexuality are way different than the Catholic one rooted in St. Augustine. You can find sites on the net where Imam's provide sexual advice to their followers in quite graphic terms about the legitimacy of oral and anal sex. It can probably be accounted for the by the fact that celibacy has never been an ideal for Muslim elites.
Of course, they're no fans of homosexuality but that's no surprise.

http://www.religiousconsultation.org/family_planning_in_Islam_by_Shaikh_p3.htm

That raises an interesting question in regard to the Pope's ideas. Is the AIDS rate different in Muslim Africa than in Catholic Africa?

no one's talking about the above subject on this thread. instead, we are dealing with the horror of priests who have been molesting boys (and girls) for years, as well as having homosexual and heterosexual relations with adults while proclaiming their joyous adherence to monogamy. hypocrisy is fair game, even if the hypocrite is wearing a clerical collar. and yes, there have been priests who have died of aids, and others that live with hiv, and we will probably never know how many were infected by these "moral leaders".

p.s. let's be "respectful" to the truth.
