I ran yesterday. It was about 90 degrees out there. I struggle with heat. I did pour water on my head between runs and around my neck etc. The car bodywork was so hot I could not touch it without gloves.

The car ran perfectly until the fifth run when it came up with a dead battery. I had left the ignition on between runs so It is probably driver error.

I was pretty rusty.

Still having fun I hope .

They make clothes you can soak with water to help in the heat, not much use where it's humid tho' .

I wear the thinnest button up shirt I can find of 100% cotton in a light color. The water on the head face neck and chest works very well.

I am surprised I cannot remember ever the body of the car getting so hot.

We'll be running at south bend on sunday....my favorite place to run and the only place I have ever had fast time of the day (twice). The track is relatively tight and a bit slippery. Since it has fewer corners it is much easier to remember what comes next. As for slippery, well, I like that.

I bought a new set of slicks today.....radials. I noted they are heavier and the belt is very very strong. I am concerned that they will require a different set up. I love my current set up on the bias plies.

I am heading up to South Bend on Sunday. My favorite track....small enough to remember all the turns and a little on the slick side.

Woo hooo!

I had a good day. My fitness was better....my driving was rough but improved over the day. I had new slicks on the car. The first run was a little slick. The course was very fast and had a couple of tricky spots. I lost the tail a bit in the slalom on my third run but caught it very quickly.

I made three runs to begin with that were lost by the timing equipment so I had nine total vs most of the guys who had to be content with 6.

All I'll say about my driving is that my last run was perfect. I got enough heat into the tires to pick up other peoples rubber shreds.

This sounds like gobs of fun. I may have to re-investigate autocrossing as it is more accessible and cheaper than doing full track days (HDPE-type events)...until the inevitable dedicated track car is purchased, of course! Thanks for keeping this thread going.

I got 14th fastest of 55. It was disappointing but even more so when I noticed a guy in a 99 dodge pickup nipped me for 13th.

Thumbs up Having Fun !

Well Tom ;

To me it's the journey not the position I manage during it .

You always sound like you're enjoying the driving so don't quit just yet .

No, still trying to get better. It is fun out there almost all the time. If I knew the truck was nipping me I would have for sure run once more to try and nip him back.

I'll be running at the old walesboro air strip owned by Cummins now. It is not my favorite place to run but I still go there almost more than anyplace else.

I got the new front brake pads and rotors installed....finally. They will need a bit of bedding so I'll try to get some in before the event. Unfortunately the new rotors weigh a bit more than the (wrong) other. half to full pound each wheel.

The new rotors have a good amount of lightning holes and are designed to float a bit in their mount.

Woo hooo!

It rained on and off all day. First run group enjoyed mostly dry track. My group had sprinkles all our time. I was going to head home with my fenderless race car but a guy from Indy offered to let me drive his C5 vette. It was tricky to get into and felt a lot larger than my car, which it is. I got in 7 runs none clean. Five DNF.

Oh well, my legs held up well enough. THAT is nice.
