7.62 AR?

I'm debating on the rifle I want to buy. I was thinking about getting a Scar 17 but I don't see that happening this year.

So now I'm debating on either an AR10, FN Fal, or M1A.

As for the FAL I'm thinking about getting a tricked out DSA Fal with all the goodies, 21in barrel, match trigger etc, about $2400.

Or an M1A, but I want an EBR stock on it. Probably an 16 or 18 inch barrel with the Sage EBR stock, figure about $2600.

Last but not least an AR of some sort. I really like LMT and since the British SAS adopted them I was quite interested. But they only offer the 16in barrel to civilians, and I really want a 21.

My other option is a Knight's Armament SR25 Mk11 Mod 0, which are expensive figure $4k-$5k. But its one BAMF rifle.

I'm torn, while the FAL is cool I want something kind of modern that I can put a can on eventually.

Its a tough decision, I wish I could just buy them all! I'm leaning towards the Fal since its the "right arm of the free world", and is one of the most important rifles of the 20th century. But the AR's are just modern and cool. Its also the younger brother of my FN49 which is an awesome rifle; IMHO it shoots better than the M1A.

Why not buy the receivers and build your own AR? You save a pile of cash, no?

Not in 7.62 not much is standard.

If I wanted a 5.56 AR I'd buy a Colt.

I guess I could always get something Russian like a Dragonov or an SVT40.

I really like Russian firearms, always brutally simply and highly affective.

The 7.62x54R is the longest serving round ever, and extremely affective.

It shore is, and I have about 12 of them, of various types.

Stay away from the SVT 38 or 40, they jam a LOT

The FN FAL is a good rifle, EXCEPT the Spanish CETME version, which is a giant mixed up load of junk. Inch pattern LARs or the Herstal FN are both excellent.

G3 is good but a little heavy.

I have fired the AR10 both semi and full auto. Lighter than an M-14 or an M1, lotsa power, will climb a little after 6 rds auto fire.

M1 is in a different class, ditto M-14.

persona;lly, if I were buying any more weapons (I plan to buy a limited number of rifles: a 700 BDL, a 338 w Magnum as a bolt, and a Barrett light 50, that's all--no more) but the AR is nice. Never disappoints any more than the FN

many peole redo the Dragunov stock which seems like it's made for a 5'5 guy or a teen.

Just my 2 cents.

Effective.

With the SVTs shot down what about an SKS or is 7.62x39 too small for you

I think the FN FAL sounds like the best bet out of the list you provided....not that I know anything

I read about a guy in Dallas a while back who got a Mannlichter-Carcano for 12 bucks..

Called himself "A. Hidell".

SKS is kind of common and not really that interesting. Besides I'm shopping battle rifles not assault riffles!

You’re on the right track with the round but the platforms you list leave me cold, save the M1A, which would be my choice.

The CENTME is the Spanish version of the HK G-3. Or actaully the forrunner. Also, Galil made a .308 version and possible Valmet. I do have an FN FAL. It was one of the early Century Sporters. I had DSM put an Isreali heavy barrel on it. I haven't completed it yet. I also have a STV-40. They do shoot nice. For some reason they point naturally.
I can't give you any advice as what to pick. I do think DSM does quality work. The other side is accesories and magazines. FN magazines should be fairly available. I forget if the inch and metric mags interchange or not.
