Don doesn't like Aveo's

I dont know what is this cars problem but ever since rebuilding the head, putting it back on, etc etc it has not been running properly.

A few weeks after getting it running the oil was low, the engine started making a knocking noise at 2500 rpms (and only at 2500), my mechanic cannot figure out why. Everything is how it should be and I'm getting worried.

Charles said it sounded like the catalytic converter going bad. The cat is right off the exhaust manifold and the original did fail 2 years ago and was replaced. So why would this one suddenly fail?

help

They make really good guns, and equipment too.

IMHO its time to trade it in while it still has a bit of value.

When Top Gear reviewed the Aveo, they concluded that the only reason to buy one is if you had never tried any other cars.

I dont think that a clogged cat would cause a knock at only 2500RPM's there'd be other signs too, I'm trying to recall what happened when a cat went bad on our tahoe It was loosing power, stalling etc

You could park it next to a thick concrete wall and get an old c60 work truck and squash it imbetween the two.

Do you have a borescope (sp?) ? A peek inside the motor might do wonders.

A cam timing issue can cause a rich fuel condition in the cat, hastening it's demise. Another culprit may be the upstream O2 sensor, but you would probably be getting a CEL and codes for that.

Well, its apparently making a sound like " an old vw diesel" at all rpm's. I was told by my neighbor.

I'm really upset now. This week is just another crappy week. My parents don't need this, I don't as well. Why?

How low was it run on oil?

Did you ever find the stalling issue?

I suspect a major vacuum leak was causing the stalling. It could also increase oil consumption. A clogged cat is laughable, a converter with a broken matrix can and will rattle, but clogged ones glow red hot and cause a loss of power.
Knocking isnt good. I suspect the problem will rear it's ugly head shortly.

I have a lead on a 29k mile engine for $400 local to me. Finding them by you for $750's...

is it an '04 engine?.. I think after 06 they get weird.

No vacuum leaks, only line missing is a vent line off of the valve cover to the intake but that shouldn't have caused an issue.

If I can get a good engine for it, swap over the timing stuff I think that might be a good thing. But yar im just pissed I didnt somehow get the $1400 to have my mechanic do it right the first time.

If it was run with low oil for a period of time, are you sure it didn't spin a bearing and it's now hammering the crank lobe into an egg shape?
