Based on what I've seen of past protests, I think the normal escalation is to start placing people under arrest and physically carrying them to the paddy wagon, provided they offer no active resistance.

I think I'd rather get tear gassed. It wears off a lot faster once you get out of the cloud. Of course, there may be a tolerance issue there, since I've only been pepper sprayed once, and I've been in more gas chambers than I can remember.

Amen to that. Freaking pepper spray is a whole body experience.

Tear gas can be if the concentration is high enough but usually it's just great ropy drooping cords of snot and heaving tear ducts from hell. I do recall that my sinuses were much improved after tear gas recovery. With the bonus of knowing how to don a gas mask with great alacrity and finesse.

I've never been pepper sprayed but I had an experience with the active ingredient. Years ago I was having some serious scalp itching. I was wondering if I'd caught head lice from someone. A friend said you can do a home remedy with cayenne. So I soaked a good bit of it overnight and then used it like shampoo in the shower. Worked great for about 2 minutes until it flowed down into my eyes.

HOLY CRAP that was harsh. Then it went down to my private regions and my misery was well underway. All I could do was stand there and maintain shallow breathing for about 20 minutes until it sorta washed out and subsided. Subsided a little. Wow. It was intense. What a dumbass I was, eh?

So..what happened to the First Amendment ? We've all been dumbed down by the constant media exposure of every little thing to the point we don't react any more because we have seen worse.

It's called Over Exposure....plus, most of us don't think we could do anything about what ever we are troubled about unless it land in your laps where it might destroy your life and liberty..

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

...due to the ruling by Supreme Court that Corporations are now individuals..they are now openly walking the halls or power influencing law makers ....cash in hand but telling those same law makers 'Occupy' should be outlawed or exterminated.

Subject a people to suppressive government long enough and you'll have a Libya/Egypt here too.

Home remedy for crap that crawls on you (lice, itch mites) is generally more like a fine sulphur powder mixed with olive oil and vaseline. Never heard of cayenne pepper working. Don't ask how I know this.

What concentration of each would you suggest?

Freedom of speech is NOT a license to do as you please. It does not, for example, give me the right to shout my ideas into your ear, does it? It does NOT give you the right to peaceably assemble on my front lawn, does it? Nor does it give you the right to assemble IN the White House or in the middle of a military base, does it?

Care to explain pre-SC decision vs post-SC decision as to what they can do now that they cannot?

I still had some itching afterwards so I did the uhhh, normal thing and went to the clinic where they told me I didn't have them. Probably didn't have them all along. I get itchy scalp all the time, shampooing only sorta helps. Oh well, crosses to bear and all that.

But I did get a mild introduction to what pepper spraying might feel like - I gather that most CS is a good bit stronger than simple cayenne.

He was clearly going to hurt the supposed perp, that's not a character I'd want to mess with. Could be the guy has some aggression issues. Who knows if the guy in blue was even guilty of anything.
