Summed up in a nutshell.
The protesters WANTED an incident to get their 15 minutes of fame and energize their so-called movement. But instead of the National Guard and M-14's, they get one cop that's tangled with one too many doughnuts and a can of bear repellent. Hardly the generational history-making moment they'd hoped for. ![]() Police brutality, excessive force, pigs, chemical force, etc, etc? Give me an effin break. I'll see your pepper spray and raise you a dozen clips of 30 caliber full metal jacket. Kent State was all of the above and worse, a godawful tragedy where people were KILLED. This was nothing but a bunch of wannabes that blocked a public sidewalk, got some pepper spray in their faces, and got sent packing home to mama. All these pages of sturm und drang over this supposedly horrific incident of these students getting pepper sprayed for obstensibly disobeying the police, yet hardly any comment besides some snickers and jokes on another thread concerning a woman indiscriminately spraying adults and small children with the same substance in a Walmart simply so she could get a clear run at an Xbox and HDTV - "where's the outrage" in that case I might ask, if spraying someone with pepper spray is such a hideous war crime? From looking at that Walmart video, other than the people that took a direct hit, it didn't even faze that mob stampede - some of the people they interviewed even said they ran into the pepper spray, but didn't give a hirsute rodents posterior, because they were determined to get their cheap Chinese goodies and get to the register. Either the "people of Walmart" are a tougher bunch than the UC Davis students, or pepper spray doesn't deserve the fearsome reputation it's seemingly been given in this thread. All the "outrage" was probably on the part of those Walmart shoppers when they got to the checkout, and found out they were only getting ten bucks off on that laptop they snagged. Comparing this thread, and the one on the Walmart pepper spray incident, the level of hypocrisy is truly something to cause "outrage".

Put it this way: if I saw either the cop or the woman about to get hit by a truck, I'd walk by whistling Dixie. They're on par with each other in my book -- wonder if they're both single. They'd make a cute couple.

Chippewa makes a good boot. Hard to break in though. I have a pair of their buffalo packers, I like Red Wings or White's better.

Many of you who have read my posts know that I was a big east coast city cop for many years. I will not condone what happened here in the least but I would bet my next pension check that this cop was ORDERED to do this by a higher up and that higher up does not have the onions to come forward and the spray cop is doing his best cop omerta.

The chancellor really handled this whole thing very poorly. She sent out several e-mails to all the students before she had the facts, then got up to talk during this Aerial Pic Of UC Davis General Assembly This Last Tuesday... A Couple Days After The Gassing... - Democratic Underground
and ended up annoying everyone even more. There were tons of tents still set up on the quad when i left friday night, and there are supposedly going to be more this coming week. The way the chancellor addressed the police actions pretty much removed all authority from the police, and IMO its a little uncomfortable having tons of people from who knows where camped in the middle of the school which have been exempted from having to follow campus laws or obey the campus police. |

Followed by the walking and nudging? At what point do the officers have to resort to pepper spray? And before anyone asks yes I have been tear gassed and pepper sprayed( I personally will take the pepper spray)
