I don't blame people for being better than me. It is MY fault that I am where I am instead of where I would like to be. It is MY lack of ambition and/or abilities that lead me to where I am. It is NOT their fault for being more ambitious and talented. They deserved what they get as do I.

One of the most absolutely accurate, non automotive posts ever written on this forum.

Just something I have noticed. The more I blame others, the less reason for me to improve myself and the less self improvement, the more degeneration. Much like conspiracy theorists that blame a sinister cabal for their fate. Well, as long as the cabal is there, there is no reason to improve since they control your fate so you just made it easier to accept your fate via blaming someone else. You don't need effort or talent anymore since it doesn't matter. Much more palatable than having to blame oneself. Kinda like blaming ADD, ADHD and other crap for your kid's bad behavior instead of saying "I failed as a parent because I didn't discipline that kid enough and now he is what he is".

I don't want to give everyone $10,000, I want to make sure the old can live in dignity, that the sick don't have to die in the streets, and that children have enough to eat and a good education so they have the same chance anyone else does to make it in this world, and I've never seen the greedy ever want to give it to any of them without being forced to by taxation. It disgusts me when people lump in a bunch of crap with what are worthy goals for mankind.

nice assumption and flash of your "I don't like people who are better off than me because they were sheltered most of the time and I've been out here in the cold" viewpoint. Care for a napkin to cry on?

Know of a better example of equalizing everyone?

If they want it, they can work towards it.

There is something called "parents". That is their job. Not yours or mine.

When you work hard for it, why would anyone want to give up that? Especially for nothing except the warm fuzzy feeling of helping someone who cannot and/or will not earn their keep?

Self sufficiency is a worthy goal for mankind.

I wouldn't say I was better off than him or worse off. I just don't buy into the conspiracy theories. Yes, life has difficulties. Life is unfair. Live with it and overcome it or go sit in a hot bath and slit your wrist would be my answer. Only in fairy tales is life fair and good. Problem is that we are brought up to believe the world owes us a living. Wrong. We owe ourselves a living. NOBODY owes us a damn thing. Sure, we can create an environment where it is unlike the world but for how long can we sustain it? The rest of the world just continues it's merry way.

worthy goals for mankind...

So someone should take something I worked hard to get and give it to someone who did not so someone else can chalk it up/think of it as a "worthy goal for mankind." Stupidity at it's finest IMHO.

How different is it from what I said about equalizing everyone to $10000 net worth? Except for the part where they expect it to continue forever and that things will get better from it?

Equalize opportunity -- via education, infrastructure, what have you, not outcomes.

No, though I'm always amazed by people who take the "Because it hasn't happened to me there must not be a problem" attitude. I've lost over $900 in jewelery to baggage handler thieves while flying on one of the major airlines. The airline informed me that their liability is limited to $150.

I spoke with a man who had a $400 cell phone seized by a TSA gate agent for no reason. One of his relatives works for the airlines and told him that the cell phones are then resold for $5.

Just because it hasn't happened to you (yet), doesn't mean it isn't happening to others.

News for you. Life is NOT fair. It can never be fair. Not now, not ever. NEVER. A person with abilities can overcome much. We have more opportunity here than many places yet we refuse to use it and instead, we ask for more. As someone said, "The harder I work, the luckier I get". Most, not all, worthy people often find a way to overcome the poor odds.

Karma is a b!tch -- hope one of the airline's customers finds out the guy's name (not hard to do with a photo, location, and job) and smashes his skull with a lead pipe outside his house a few months later.
