I currently commute 21 miles one way over winding, hilly, fun country road in an MB. Commutes don't get any better than this.

For many years I traveled a lot but when I DID go to the office, it was 89 miles one way through some of the worst of the DFW traffic. I probably averaged making that trip once or twice a week, but sometimes went several weeks at a time doing it daily.

If you like where you live and it's a good job, you will get used to the commute. With a good stereo, a reliable, comfortable car and a mobile phone it will be completely tolerable and you will be used to it in short order.

Best of luck with it and congratulations on the new job.

I'm starting to wonder if there are any new topics to discuss outside of politics.
Totally OT, I fell asleep last night watching a show about IO...........pretty interesting.
Sorry. What were we talking about again?

It has been nice, I walk every day it's not too crappy weather-wise. I really should get my bike fixed (bent the rear rim trying to jump off the loading dock ) but I just haven't had the time lately. I used to use it for short errands (post office, bank, running out for a gal. of milk, etc.).

I actually haven't replaced my Jeep yet, been saving a fair amount of money, but that will come to an end once school starts again and we're back to going 4 different directions at the same time. I was hoping to get my TD ship-shape over the summer and start using that, but I'm afraid it's not happening this year.

11.5 miles against traffic=20 minutes, and also facing away from the sun each way, so I take the motorcycle whenever reasonable.
Nice three lane in each direction highway for 8 miles of it.
I really do enjoy glancing at the stopped traffic in the other direction as I fly by at 60 mph.

Nice commute! Sounds like you need to be changing oil based on the calander versus the odometer!

In 2004 and 2005 I was doing some application development at home and my commute was about 30 feet. My kind of commute. Great job too.

The leased CTS is my weekday commuter. Just had the oil changed. 8 months old 5000 miles. The oil change happens when oil gets to within 10% of remaining life per computer.
The CE is my weekend pickup truck. Bigger, deeper trunk for hauling stuff to recycling center, (leaves, shrubs, etc). Guess which car gets the garage.

Sorry I forgot to come back and update this thread..

I start tomorrow, its about 60 miles via turnpike (70mph)...

Given my fleet, which car would you pick to DD that distance? If each car was in good shape and ready to go?

190E 3.0 (25 mpg highway-w/ac)
300SD (unknown freeway mpg)
420SEL (22mpg highway-w/ac)

I'll probably end up moving closer, getting an apartment or something, but I've got to build up credit and whatnot in order for that to happen....

Given the relatively similar mpg, I'd rotate them.

This is not a bad idea at all. The SD has a bit of work before its road worthy again but the SEL/190 are good to go. I think it would help make the commute less boring, SEL is definitely more of a cruiser than the 190E

Day 2 of commuting. All of you who said it would suck, were correct. Up at 6am, gone by 630. Off at 5, home by 625. 12 hours of the day gone, even with only 7 hours of sleep, that leaves 5 hours for other things, including dinner..so make that 4 or less

You'll get used to it James. Don't think of it badly, or it will make your life miserable. Find some good tunes on the radior or some CD's and just cruise with the traffic. You have some nice MB's so enjoy them and make the commute the highlight of your day.

Dreading something that is a part of your day, will just build on itself. Chin up!
