Nearest neighbor is my mom/dad and they live about 1/2 mile the other way. She just wanted to shoot the AK.

I was hoping that there would be something in a naughty nurse outfit but that is fine. Can you make us a close up of that? Preferable the gun? Is it a 22 or a 7.62

Cute. If she was coming this way a few days ago, I'd have let her shoot my 500 S&W. At this point, she can shoot my 50AE Desert Eagle since that is what I traded the 500 for.

7.62 x 39, in my opinion, one of the best engineered guns out there.

Death for guys around us is a reminder of our mortality. Or perhaps makes us more aware of it for a time. Women I find to be more understanding and tollerant of it in some ways.

My wife tends to be more fatalistic for example. We all go the way of the dust at some point and there are no exclusions. Your daugther will make a rapid adjustment no doubt as it is part and parcel of her new field.

Another aspec is unfortunatly familiariy breeds contempt. This can perhaps be far better expressed. To me familiarity breeds acceptance that something is normal to a certain degree.

I never mean to imply it is something one takes with a grain of salt when another person passes. Dealing with it is just a part of life to adjust to. I dislike seeing even a dog go mind having the reponsibility to see him put down. For many sick people it is actually a good thing. It ends their pain and suffering if there is no upside.

Went to the "pinning" ceremony today. She graduates tomorrow. We are so proud of her. It seems like it was only yesterday that she was born. Years ago, in another life, I went to visit her mom in the hospital the day after she was born. It is going to be like a $1200/month raise to the wife. No more apartment rent, car cost, living expense, etc.... I'm encouraging the lovely Ms engatwork to sign the car over to her asap so she can get the full experience of car ownership and not just having to put gasoline in it. Thankfully the stepdaughter seems to have her head screwed on straight and has accepted a job in a hospital starting at $55k.

My brother in law is a ENT specialist and I remember back in about 98-99 we were at his home in Nashville for Christmas holidays while he was workin a rotation at Vanderbilt. He was finishing his 6 yr residency at vandy after graduating from emory med school. This was his last year before striking out on his own

i remember He was running late and we were all sitting around the fire and tree enjoying cocktails waiting for him to get home so dinner could be served. He called and said there was a terrible car accident outside of Nashville that involved a college kid driving home to be with family for the holidays. Mr bro in law was trying to sew an ear on along with some other facial reconstruction. He would be late but not to wait on him...of course we were saddened by the news and kept dinner on hold.

An hr or so later he arrives in scrubs that were bloodied and soiled. He came in with holiday cheers and gross hugs for everone he was home with his family and baby daughter, parents, sister, etc and was ready for a wonderful evening of Christmas cheer and blessings....after dinner and a few more drinks he and I enjoyed a cigar on the porch.. I asked him how his patient came out of surgery and he told me the kid had died...combination of multiple injuries.. I was stunned at how well he handled it... He told me it comes with the territory and it's what he is trained to do... He did feel bad I could see it but if he was going to be a successful surgeon he would have to compartmentalize the emotions...he handles them at appropriate times and usually not in front of family and friends.. However he handles his emotions it must work and he is a very successful ear, nose, throat surgeon here in my town. I am to much a softee to deal with life and death situations

It must be difficult, but people can live with it. Some of course cannot and they teach.....just kidding. They might have to shift to a field with less stress.

At an earlier age, I was surrounded by death...at age 3, my maternal G-pa, then at 4-1/2, my Dad. At 6, a maternal cousin who was only 12. At 8, a paternal Aunt, at 11, the same, and in the same year, around Christmas time, the paternal G-ma. Then, right after getting my license (16) and during the gun-deer season, my paternal G-ma bought it when a car, driven by my paternal cousin (her G-son) t-bones her car. Then, in either '91 or '92, the exSF bites it...

In between, marriages and the like...newborns to replace those that have gone on before us.

Being surrounded by death, birth and the associated customs, the only thing that really bothers me are the deaths of little children and soldiers, the kids more than the adults.

But, I won't run from it...it's accepted that death has to happen. I want mine to be quick, not involving anyone else (from the performance angle you understand...like being drunk, careless, etc...) and there are no witnesses. And the autopsy should come back with no hint of mystery...just a "...he was dead on the way down to the floor..." Head-shots should be ruled out unless I was helping an officer or the like.

Quick and consice and it all fits into one body bag with no parts to be collected and bagged separately.
