Question What are you trying to say, John?

Of course they are cashing in, that’s what capitalists do! The real issue is whether the ute will be a good contender.

As to the 928, it was produced from ’78 to ’95, if I remember correctly, and a 17 year production run is hardly representative of a looser. And, of course the 928 actually out performed the similarly configured 911 for every year of its production. Only problem with the 928 was that the prick mechanics were bitter or too stupid to be able to learn about more than 1 type of Porsche. Of course, the legendary crappy service that Porsche mechanics the world over provide would indicate they are too stupid to learn much of anything but excessive billing and seemingly always “forgetting” to do some or all of the work associated with the bill.

As to the 924, and 944, they where a hybrid mix of Audi parts bin stuff and Porsche fit and finish. They were after the po folks in the market. As any capitalist knows a) you never get rich pandering to po folk (unless you use high volume) and b) if you want to make money, make it from those that have it to spend.

If Cayenne is a thoroughbred Porsche, it will be Hot and outperform anything else in the segment in every regard except perhaps rock crawling. (G owners have to look down their nose at something, ya know). Okay, yes, VW is using the same platform, and that will probably make Porsche take a hit in the exclusive bread-box, but shoot, even VW is going upscale.

There is nothing wrong with “cashing in” -- being in it for the money is the way -- as long as you provide a premium product, your soft capitalist underbelly is well covered.

Porsche's problem back then was marketing against itself. The "other" model Porsches didn't attract 911 owners but never really developed a new market because everyone wanted a Porsche, and that meant a 911.

Porsche needs to lookout for a whole new type of clientele barging into their showrooms and service departments. For some, the mere mention of Porsche will turn them away, just like the mention of Mercedes means $$$ or "I can't have it" to a lot of people. Don't forget the passenger sedan coming up.

I believe Porsche will be brought within 4 years. They just don't have enough products to continuing to be independent.

Hey Frank,

I actually like old Jeeps...very cool. I like old FourRunners, too, and the really old Broncos, Range Rovers, etc...

SUVs are not inherently bad, it's just the kind of people that usually drive them that annoy me so much. Thus the term Stupid User Vehicle. At least in my experience here in Atlanta, GA, more often than not, it's a case of way too much vehicle for the underskilled soccer-moms and yuppies that are trying to drive them. However, there are exceptions to every rule.

OK, back to my latte....

Mike

Howdy Mike,
Take off the front spoiler and give it a camo paint job and I could live with it I agree with what you said about it's the people that give a vehicle a bad reputation. OK back to my SUV
