That's where I'm at. Had one 20 years ago and just can't get past the texture.

B, I'm with you on the fried.

It's called "marketing" and it's interesting to see how much of the population falls for it.

McDs does seem to have hit upon an effective means of generating buzz around it by making it scarce.

I first heard about it on the Daily Show a couple years ago where Jon Stewart was waxing rhapsodic about it. I had one, not bad, but I wasn't immediately hooked. A few weeks later I bought one for an old fellow I picked up hitchhiking from San Jose to LA. He liked his a lot. I later had one more, also tasty enough but that was my last one. I was a bit surprised at the tripe part, as when I had that once in a taco, reminded me of liver.

On rare occasions, I'll eat the McD's bacon-egg-cheese biscuit when I'm on the road. Jack-in-the-Box has a better one that's available all day - McD's stops serving theirs at around 11 am.

An old technique. "Buy this now because we can't keep doing it all day long.". Creating urgency is what advertisement seeks to do.

Which is my point. If it tastes good, why bother unless it has something toxic in it?

But does a McRib really taste all that good?

Aklim, you slay me...dissing one sample of grass fed beef and then eating MickeyD's manufactured crap and rationalizing it to boot!

Yes and no. Compared to a good steak, no. For the money and convenience, yes. Is a Yugo better than a Maybach? Not if you can afford either. OTOH, if your choice is walking or a Yugo, that Yugo looks pretty good. Yes it doesn't taste as good as my favorite rib shop but that is way more expensive and over 80 miles away.

I have had several samples of grass fed beef. I am not against sampling more but for the price paid, I expect a lot more. They have been more expensive than the butcher that I get my meat from. Are they better than what Wal*Mart has for meat? Sure. Is the price and ease of obtaining some as good? No.

The grass fed beef is harder to get around here and costs more than my butcher. If I cannot appreciate the difference, why do I want to pay more? When I pay more, I expect more. If grass fed beef was cheaper than Wal*Mart or even similarly priced, I would consider it a bargain and be buying it. That it costs more than Wal*Mart and even more than my butcher, I demand more. It doesn't deliver so I am dissing it.

Wal*Mart has beef that is cheaper than the butcher BUT sometimes it is OK and other times it literally stinks when cooking it. Too dicey for me so I don't buy their stuff.

Animal toxicity studies indicate that Propyl Gallate was slightly toxic when ingested, but no systemic effects were noted with dermal application.

This is from the NIH's review of the preservative in the McRib to determine it's safety in cosmetics. The preservative is added to stablize and prevent rancidity of the fats used in cosmetics. So, a McRib is less dangerous if you use it as a moisturizer versus eating it.

Fair enough but when you say "less dangerous", what exactly does that entail? How dangerous is ingestion? Enough that it is banned? I think not.
