I would suggest that you go on a pilot discussion forum and bring up the subject and see what their opinion will be. If you get even one of them, that is even remotely familiar with the flight and the pilot, to not tell you that he was a dead man flying, I will be quite surprised.

Of course, I'm sure you won't do that because it might take away some of your desire to CONTINUALLY bully me over the issue.

I know you didn't say that, but thats what Larry has said that originally started this argument. He blamed the mans experiences as a toddler in the white house for the "elitist attitude" that ultimately killed him.

IMO, the Kennedys are pretty much the same as any other ultra wealthy clan, the individual members may be good people, and may have good intentions for the most part apart for the usual bad apple, but the fundamentally live in a slightly kinder world. You are exactly right, a lot is taken for granted that normal people have to deal with. However, on the other hand, they have dealt with as a family a much higher proportion of tragedy than most other families, so on one hand, they live a charmed life, but on the other, they have been pretty unlucky.

Having said that, judgements of people from that kind of world really have to be done on a case by case basis. Ive encountered plenty of super down to earth people who turned out to be exceedingly wealthy, and plenty of people with far less who are spoiled rotten brats.

You REALLY need to go take flying lessons and see what is involved before you draw conclusions with no knowledge at all about what you are saying.

Even with ZERO flight knowledge or experience, you should be able to figure out that the phase of the moon and weather conditions will not be the same for every flight. If he would have had enough moonlight along with a clear sky to take advantage of the moonlight AND he properly prepared for night vision, etc., he could have flown based on visual refereences.

Deciding to make that flight on that night made him a dead man flying, PERIOD!

why not retract the whole toddler statement? its been done, sometimes when we make boneheaded statements, we can take them back and people don't think anything less of us, in fact, people respect someone who can admit when they said something stupid, and people have less respect for someone who can't, and tries to twist the argument into them being persecuted.

I do not often agree with Larry, esp on issues of religion, morality & society, but in the case of what he is talking about regarding an non rated pilot heading off into a situation as Kennedy did, he is right. Dont know & dont care if his 3 year old persona doomed him or not, but his ability to make a good risk assessment regarding his last flight (and every flight could be your last flight, that's why it is so important to be right) put him square into dead man flying territory. This ain't sailing or driving guys: the three D world of flight is a killer of the inexperienced and incautious....

My question about the radios being on the wrong frequency has gone unanswered. Can one of you with aviation knowledge answer it please?
