Tom,

Furthering what Tim pointed out, unfortunately John did not get a weather briefing. Unfortunately John very apparently THOUGHT that he could fly on instruments. Although it is possible that he did not fly into IMC, he did, as Tim pointed out, flew over water at night with obviously inadequate instrument competency. With no visible horizon, he might as well have been flying in the most dense cloud ever formed above the planet.

Bull spit... you have posted a half dozen gleeful and despicable posts which display your lack of sorrow or compassion for the accident.
I think it's disgusting. Your god will certainly bring this up to you on your day of reckoning.

Have a nice day.

I doubt that a report of any accident will talk about the pilot's upbringing as a contributing factor.

Something to reflect on in that.

The way I read the report I expect he was flying by senses rather than instruments. He sensed he was flying straight and level but was actually on a curving arc which he confused with gravity. Probably chatting away in complete ignorance when they smacked the ocean.

WOW! Talk about denial!

What Tim said was true, but I will split hairs here. He might could have survived without an instrument rating, but he could not have survived without instrument competency. It is QUITE obvious that, unfortunately, he had neither. Do you?

Also you, one who constantly accuses me of not reading anything, did not read my response to Toms post.

Exactly. With instrument competency this highly possible scenario could have been corrected.

So in your denial you also think that you know what is in my heart? Maybe you are in the same "my shlt doesn't stink" mindset as John.

^^^ How is it that you can know what was in John's heart but cmbdiesel can't know what's in yours?

C'mon man, you're letting politics poison your brain.

Perhaps he has that same discerning talent that you employed when you evaluated John's mindset.

But cmb is NOT eaten up with politics?

What I commented on is NOT what was in his heart, but in his attitude toward life. I believe that he was overconfident. In fact the circumstances of the accident prove it. My opinion of what LED HIM TO THAT overconfidence is my conjecture and I will admit that what caused the overconfidence could be something else, but I believe that it's just typical Elitism. The same kind that makes someone kill a young lady in a car and not report it until the next morning. The same kind that is developed in MANY elitest families of ALL political persuasions.

Overconfident? That's quite a comedown from your earlier rhetoric.

Does overconfidence not go along with elitism?

Wasn't talking about cmd. You started the whole ragging on a Dead Kennedy.

What you BELIEVE may or may not be what is TRUE.

I agree.

Is there evidence that John-John was an elitist? I don't think so. I think he was a conflicted paternalistic egalitarian. But I know about as much about John-John as I do about Rush Limbaugh. All I really have is the news media and my prejudices.

Ok, so lets review what the report says....he checked the weather forecast and it did not indicate that a non instrument rated pilot should stay on the ground. He did fly and got disoriented and crashed. his radio did not function due to being on the wrong frequency.

It sounds to me like the weather conditions changed after he took off.

What about those radios being on the wrong frequency? Is that something that the pilot routinely has to set each flight?

Its not that I cannot accept that he was fallible, I truly don't know about his skill level other than what is said in the report. I doubt you do either. I'm just trying to get at the truth of it using what is available to consider....without making anything up or reading his mind....posthumously.
