my little horror story. Two times in a row (I was not driving) on my birthday, on the way to do something to celebrate said day we got rear ended, one time not so bad, the 2nd time the person doing the said hitting had to be airlifted. this was the beginning when cell phones got small enough to fit in your hand instead of having the hand unit or a bag phone (I really do miss those bag phones). This is the reason I dont go anywhere on my birthday anymore. I got the hint quickly.
Better them than you. I'd have sent them a durian fruit basket as a "get well" wish.

I made the newspaper (with some inaccuracies): Three Carson City-area crashes delay traffic | NevadaAppeal.com

Quote:
A 35-year-old Carson City man driving a red Chevrolet pickup failed to notice that southbound traffic had stopped past the Highway 50 entrance.

He rear-ended a tan Mercedes driven by a 35-year-old Minden man.

I got a very close call today, passing at 70 on the freeway (in the passing lane) in the morning and the front car applies crazy brakes (guess what his lights are out too)...

I literally jammed on the brakes and felt the ABS kick in HARD - man these W124 can stop.. I also steered it off on to the shoulder and a car behind me screeched and smacked into the car in front of me.

Cop was not amused and my tires still smelled like burnt rubber after the 10 minutes it took him to show up, Got off for free, guy with tail lights out bought a nice penalty ticket.

As crazy as it sounds and after watching a news report on highway safety, it has been determined that high way driving is about ten times more dangerous than city street driving. People can argue with me about this but the bottom line is the faster these morons drive, the less time they have to react to emergency situations because they are TAILGATING at 70++ MPH while yakking on cell phones, eating Cheetos and reading a newspaper all at the same time. Good luck out there.

I've been around getting estimates. So far one shop wants $2600. Two others are supposed to do some parts pricing and get back to me on Tuesday and Wednesday. These repairs don't include a full body repaint, which I've been quoted 4 to TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS for.

What should a decent mid-grade paint job cost? And where should I look to get one?

The cost of paint seems to have been rising over here at an alarming rate. It is all eco friendly good for the fishes stuff now which I guess is a good opportunity to make it more expensive - new formula - new paint - new price.

I too have been quoted in excess of 5 thousand euros for whole vehicle paint jobs.

$1,000.00 tops could do it. OTOH, you can find someone to charge you as much as you want to pay. The guy that paid $600 for a simple alternator R&R learned that. Point being, you need to shop to your personal quality and price level, given the machine in question to be painted.

I had a car done by an indy for $600 and was totally pleased with it. Another guy's price was a thousand. You can find what you want when it comes to price.

After reading some reviews I'm going to get an estimate from a place in Reno called Dent Doctor on Wednesday.

Why'd you wait for cops? Were you stuck?

No necessarily so in Texas. There are some stout pros for the policy holder in TX not found in many states. This is a good thing.

Got an estimate within the range of what I want to spend. There's even some room for the inevitable cost overrun. I plan to drop it off Monday. I just need to see who I can hit up for a ride back from Reno.
