Although a conservative is fundamentally wedded to the "status quo" and any change is not desirable, this is diametrically opposite the conservative position whereby an individual's right is highly valued and not to be interfered with by the government.

In similar manner to the desire of the government to avoid disturbing the individual's right to own guns, a conservative should not be opposed to an individual's right to have a partner of any sex.

However, we see all the "conservatives" stand up with "moral" objections to such legislation, despite the fact that it doesn't affect them in any manner.

Hypocrites.

Good point/s.

Aside from the idea that one should be responsible for themselves and their finances, the RW in America is/has been actually dragging your country backwards. Not like they'll ever see all the doubble standards they've maintained for so long that it's just accepted as every day fact now. What a complete waste of time and energy as they hold on to stupid, old, outdated, bas-ackwards thinking.

Same celebration that members of the US Military had when it was announced that women would be admitted to the academies . . . they weren't happy for women's rights, they were happy for readily available sexual assault victims.

For scouting to remain relevant to this and future generations, they must get past the prejudices and bias of the Victorian ages.

Who are you to decided what a "prejudice" or "bias" of a "Victorian age"?

Or are you forgetting your own presuppositions?

I respectfully suggest that you lock yourself in a small, dark room and play DVD episodes of "Father Knows Best" non-stop.

HUH? That's so far out of the realm of what's in my head, that I'm having a tough time parsing it.

To me, a more relevant question would be: "Why are we now forcing our neurosis over sexuality on Boy Scouts now?" THEY'RE KIDS!

We should be telling all of them the same thing when they're kids.
"We're here and we love you. Try to be better than us. You'll make mistakes, you'll learn from them. We'll still be here loving you."

Why are we forcing kids to even DEAL with this?

Complete and total BS, IMHO.

Exclamation Seriously folks.

I'm truly astonished at the polarity surrounding this event, but not the way everyone else is expressing on either side; shocked by it, amazed, confused.

From my speed read through the thread, there's total polarity. Left or right.

Could there be a third possibility here?

If your desire for weiner or vajayjay defines you to a point where folks in the Scouting world would ever even hear about it, maybe Scouting isn't for you.

If, as a kid, you'd have made me even PONDER making that decision or judging someone else for it, I'd have walked away.

Perhaps the lesson we want kids to learn is "Be a good human, Be honest, Continue learning and growing your whole life, Be a good steward of everything you see yours or not, It's more important to be kind than to be right, Mistakes=experience=virtue...virtue can't be beaten or extolled"

Why are we spending so much time talking about our junk? LMAO

I'm with you in general but the amount of 12 year old kids calling each other fags is astoundingly large. The BSA is not the root of this but more societal intolerance.

When I was a kid, we called each other pollacks and queers...I don't think 5% of us knew that was someone from Poland or a homosexual. It was just generic and bad.

Better to have a persons preference out in the open than not, imho.

God willing, it won't. I for one will not tolerate it.

You mean the belief that the homosexual lifestyle is a sin? If that's falling away only the country will suffer for ignoring God's laws.

Also a 3rd gen Eagle Scout and I'm appalled at how much people care so much about others' preferences...btw do you recall being "recruited" by the gay ranks?

....says the guy concerned about the preferences of a private organization.

Do you see the irony?

I remember being told by those in my school, at every place I've ever worked and through some of my friends that "gay is okay".

The only "recruiting" of any type I remember in scouting was the ex-hippies and children of the 60s trying to tell us that weed wasn't that bad. That didn't go over well to a Troop that had parents including 2 Army Rangers, 3 DEA agents, 2 FBI agents, 3 county cops, 1 state trooper, and four employees of either the CIA or Air Force.

There were no homosexuals in our troop. It was an average sized troop ~35-40 boys and not affiliated to any religious group. We met in a local elementary school.

I have been been unable to Google an answer if they are 100% private funded or if they touch private money in any way, shape or form. Do you know?

Many use publicly funded meeting places at least - I am not sure of the complete funding agreements but most troops meet in municipal buildings or churches.
