This is a very interesting and revealing thread. There are some very mature, decent and compassionate people posting here and some others... not so much.

Jplinville is sharing his personal story in Open Discussion because we are his friends on this forum, and this is part of what open discussion is for.

I think an appropriate response from us is not skepticism, but rather to provide what friends should offer: empathy.
yep.

all the posts are mature.

I happen to agree with suganami that jplinville is just sharing with the forum, but all the posters who point out we are only seeing one side of this very personal fight are entirely correct.
Clearly posting this personal stuff does him some good, however were I in the same position, I don't think I would be making it public, but everyone is different.
We have different people responding to this thread based on whether or not they would air their dirty laundry, and others pointing out that this is a one sided tale told to generally strangers, but I don't see much disrespect towards jplinville or what sounds like a pretty annoying situation either way.

Im not sure how all that works out to be "immature" to you, but your value system of compounded lies, hypocrisy, and sickening sycophantism would confuse anyone.

Do you care to point out ANY lie that I have ever made? I have made this challenge before, to whom I don't remember. Maybe it was you. The challenge has been unmet.

only every time you post an unsubstantiated and completely untrue political or social rant and call it fact. Id call that perpetuating a lie if the data is completely untrue, wouldn't you?

Do you expect your friends to take an objective and dispassionate view of situations in your life? I like friends to support me in the hours of crisis. After the crisis, my friends can help me see if I over-reacted, but my friends' purpose is to support me.
There is a time for everything in its season, under the sun. A time to be born, and a time to die, a time to gather stones, and a time to cast away stones. A time to support a friend, and a time to help a friend see the whole picture.
With some exceptions--we are all friends here.

some of this material from Solomon, last king of the united monarchy of Israel---I don't want to be accused of plagiarizing Solomon.

Okay, I'm still waiting. Prove one of them is untrue. Since it doesn't agree with your own opinion that makes it untrue?

You know? If you and Paul are so appalled at JP's honesty and openness, this forum has a feature called ignore. You guys should try it. If I'm lucky, you'll put me on ignore also.

Skid Row Joe seems equally appalled. Do you have any advice for him?

denial isn't just a river in egypt. (thank you for giving me an opportunity to say that) I guess if one makes a habit of lying to themselves, then its no big jump to the rest of your smoke and mirrors routine.

I don't think anyone is appalled by someones honesty or openness, but id say for myself, and maybe other people have the same reaction, when a stranger tells me how great they are and how bad someone else is, I usually reserve judgement since i am a third party, especially if I don't know any of the parties personally.
A man gets divorced from a woman, thats a boatload of personal drama and 9 times out of 10, there is no such thing as true objectivity from either party. Is JPs ex a total zero? Possibly, he says so, the court should be able to ferret that out easy and it sounds like they are on his side so hes in the right of it, but am I in a position to tell him how wonderful he is based on knowing neither of the parties? no.
On the flip side, some of us are ready to jump in and administer an old fashioned if anyone says anything positive about their own parenting.

A reasonable statement-if you base it exclusively on your representations of the circumstances at hand. Perhaps this woman is a terrible person. We only have your perspective upon which to base such an opinion, which is not sufficient enough from my perspective, as you may be a good man but hardly an objective third party. No person in your situation could be objective. This matter is in the court system, which is where it belongs. Let experienced and objective parties assist in resolving this matter.

Obviously, I have taken snarkiness to new heights on this forum, but every once in a great while, I address an issue in an earnest manner. I can understand that you may be suspicious of my motives, but they are not negative in this situation.

I don't see the harm in simply saying we don't know both sides of the story--its a fact. I don't have much reason to doubt him, but it still does not take away the fact that there could be a whole different perspective on the issue. As far as JP's side, it certainly sounds like he's been dealt quite the hand and I wish him the best of luck with it. Hopefully its only a matter of time (and sooner rather than later) before there is a reasonable conclusion to the mess.

Criticizing someone for being upfront about this while simultaneously praising the other party for being so upfront seems um...hypocritical. FWIW I prefer not to have things sugarcoated either, I would rather someone be blunt and honest -- "just the facts, ma'am"
