I was in the Mrs. Mazda5 minivan. The minivan angle probably threw the guy in the jeep off!

It's hard not to be sarcastic when you insinuate that so called slugs are not safe to follow, and that was your nexus for passing and endangering the lives of innocent people on the road.

I can only imagine the risks taken when there isn't a mature passenger to throttle your teenage antics.
I thought you would pass....and continue to throw insults.

This is why people should have a cheap dash cam, immature drivers can ruin your day in a hurry.
Maturity & wisdom come with age. Loss of driving skills comes with more age.
To everyone. Probably faster on two wheels. Ask me how I know.

Yeah, I worry about that. I'm 64. My vision is still correctable to 20/20 and my reflexes are still pretty sharp. I do seem to have trouble remembering some things short term. I stopped riding motorcycles as too dangerous about 30 years ago.

I'm not finding a definition of "slugs" here. Are we talking about people who have the temerity to drive the posted speed limit perhaps?

You're stuck on a two lane road, but don't (just) go the limit in the left lane on a multi-lane road.Left lane dicks. These a-holes should be run off the road.

You stopped riding motorcycles at about the same age I started. I probably should have started about four years sooner. Any sooner than that and I probably would have become a red stain on the pavement.

On Friday last week the Mrs. and I were on the interstate, tooling along in the fast lane at a rate of about 8 mph over the limit. As I approached a semi to pass it I happened to look toward my right as I was very close to the back of the semi. I spotted a fast moving BMW heading for the quickly closing gap. I thought he would not make it and steered to my left and braked a bit to give him more room. He shot the gap with inches to spare on both his corners. If I had not given him room I believe we would have had a real problem.

Maybe he just would have had to brake hard. Maybe he was counting on you to give him room (very bad idea). Or maybe he thinks he's Ayrton Senna:

When I spotted him he was committed completely. Braking was out of the question at that point.

By your own statements, you "steered to the left and braked a bit".

This certainly took at least two seconds.

The BMW could have easily slowed to the speed of the truck in two seconds if he had to do it.

he BMW can probably come to a complete stop in 175 feet at 70 mph. He certainly could scrub 20 mph in less than 75 feet.

I can steer left and brake in much less than a second. .2 reaction time and .2 for the action. He could not have stopped as he was beside my car when spotted.

two seconds Is an eternity in a situation like this.
