Not sure if butchering it that way makes financial sense, at least to me but Wal*Mart might be able to make it work. Dunno. Either way, sometimes the meat tastes ok but sometimes it stinks. Not that often but I am tired of taking chances. But say if you bought a pack of Hot Dogs or Cambell's Soup, it can't be that different so those are safe to buy if it is cheaper. Also more important, it is convenient if you can get 5 items at 1 place instead of 2 here, 2 there and 1 over there.

Aklim you would be impressed with this slaughterhouse. They have been in business since 1953. You can actually purchase a whole hog ready to throw on the pit if that is what you are looking for.

Whether or not what comes back is the same meat and only the same meat is speculation. YMMV

I do go to the local shops because they process wild game for me and the meat is good. This was the only place left since the other one closed up. The other one used to be good till they changed and shop went downhill.

If I ever get an inkling that companies are exporting unfinished meat for processing and bringing it back in. I will not buy that meat. Hamberger locally at 4.95 a pound that is made from meat that is reaching its shelf expiry date as steaks roasts or whatever is bad enough. Especially if it is frozen to hold it till needed. Well at least they are honest as I never see the term fresh hamburger with this stuff.
We basically have one self standing meat store that is pretty good in our area.. I expect that the larger enterprises will drive him out of business at some point. Logically he has to buy his raw product from the same sources as the giants and they can play games. I watched them run the local vegetable stands out of business years ago. Just sold vegetables a lot cheaper perhaps below cost for perhaps a year did it. Against the law perhaps but this can be worked around or circumvented by large enterprises.. The smaller enterprise cannot buy the raw products as cheap as the giants either. Some would say that this is just competition. Really though since they are intentially selling the product below their cost to destroy a much smaller company it is an illegal event. |

And that is the nature of business. How did say Wal*Mart or Best Buy start out? Small store that worked well and grew. Was he playing games or did he just sell it cheap? I don't know. Either way, I'm not concerned. Supermarkets have "loss leaders" to get you in too. As a business owner, it is my job to find a way to get ahead or die. I might need to amass a "war chest" to fight the neighbor gas station or whatever. If I can, I win. If not, I die. I reach the top. Can I be knocked off? Sure. Look at GM. Without begging, Toyota would have eaten up the thing.

Nope. I don't wish to purchase any food from China, least of all chicken which has been sent back and forth across the ocean.
I understand that you are 'the bottom line guy', but please try not to paint the rest of us with your narrow brush. As far as whether Wally Mart will be selling them, well.... they adhere to your philosophy, so if they are cheaper, by god you can bet that's what they will purchase. Of course, you will not know this, as there is no requirement for 'point-of-origin' labeling.... I recommend everyone who likes food to write a letter to their representatives asking for this new USDA rule to be repealed.

Not to me it doesn't.
Not even remotely interested in having meat grown here, shipped there for processing and then sent back. I have zero confidence in their sanitation and hygiene, and will not knowingly eat anything produced or processed in China. Besides, I would rather support someone in the US doing that job.

If the choice were "all things being equal", so would I. But I won't buy US because it is US and support it regardless.
