Guess it shows my age. When I was in school we couldn't wait to write cursive. All adults wrote that way and printing was for babies.

Proper handwriting is something that schools seem to have given up on years ago. It's a dying art.

Swamp, wow. Here in the center of Northern NJ, just a hop skip and a jump, our kids are 15 and 13 and were definitely taught cursive in the public schools ages ago. Now, there's no no requirement to use it because most of their work these days is on computer, but that was surprising to read, so close to where we are.

They are fascinated by it. My daughter, the artistic one of the bunch, has really been having fun with her stylistic application. And they aren't a bunch of knuckle-heads, intellectually speaking. I think CT is/(was?) so caught up in mastery test results and the ramifications that came with not meeting state standards that some things were deemed less important so they could focus on teaching to the test.

Admittedly, I haven't written in cursive to any degree since elementary school.

Edit: OK, so I did write in cursive in my example above.

I wonder how it would be to type on an Arabic language keyboard.

Many years ago I think I read somewhere that they have over 600 keys and at ten words per minute you would be a really fast typist.

Arabic keyboard - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Arabic keyboard (Arabic: لوحة المفاتيح العربية‎) is the keyboard layout used for the Arabic language. All Computer Arabic keyboards contain both Arabic and Latin, as Latin characters are necessary for URLs and Email addresses. Since Arabic is written from right to left, when typing using an Arabic keyboard, the letters will start appearing from the right side of the screen.

The arabic script does not add up entire symbols like English - it uses a small portion of the alphabet symbol (there are rules to it) to construct a word.

Arabic script word processors have that logic built into them.
