(1) install the USB drivers for your phone on your computer, available on the LG site

(3) download a root checker from the Play Store to check for root access. Give it superuser permissions after running it (SuperSU will ask).
(4) put in a flash memory card
(5) follow step #2 of these instructions. step #1 may also work, but I needed to use saferoot since motochopper didn't work:

I was a fairly early adopter of a smartphone. Moving from carrying a Palm Pilot, Motorola Startac and occasionally a camera at the same time, to a Treo, then an iPhone. I no longer feel the need to wear a watch or have any other personal electronics on me. The apps on the phone provide a nice array of tools and services that once required a PC.

Fools and their money are soon parted. I agree with with Simpler/Better & RS899.

Older things like my '89 vehicles, old Craftsman tools, an 'obsolete' cell phone, a computer made in 2009, old guns, etc., are usually more reliable, a heck of a lot less expensive, and are made to be maintained and fixed, not discarded for the newest fashion accessory their Holywierd heroes carry.

I'm certainly not boosting all of those averages.

I'm not a Apple devotee; although the wife, two oldest kids and I all have iPhones. And that's only because our largest supply partner bought all of my sales reps wireless iPads for order entries and speed & ease of use for price lists and product info when on the road. I got us all iPhones for ease of info transfer and updating as well as being able to view and use almost all of the same apps from either device. No other reason. It's great having all of our price lists, product and spec sheets handy when I'm not at my desk and we all have wireless printers.

I personally tend to be two generations behind with the iPhone. In fact, I've been running a 4-something with a non-functioning home button for over a year (thank you virtual home button via Accessibility!) and the Mrs. is a model behind me. Kids have newer just because I got them for them the Christmas before last.

The Mrs. and I are probably due for an upgrade so I'll probably hold off until Apple rolls out the 5++ or 6 or whatever they call it and pick up early 5's for us.

Parts are dirt cheap 2generations back too. You can get glass, digitizer, and csrewdrivers for a gen4 for around $30.

If my phone gets smashed a NOS unit is ~$150 on eb*y.
