What is that message?

How did those DC insiders ever get inside in the first place? Try to remember that today's rebel often becomes tomorrow's tenured and intransigent deadwood. More term limits anyone?

I remember when Reagan ran and I voted for him. He was talking about taking the country in a new direction and cleaning up the mess that Nixon and Ford left behind. Carter was elected after Ford, of course, but all Carter did was run things and try to deal with inflation. Two big jobs but nothing to really go down in the history books about.

Reagan had been on the airwaves for a few years with radio bits, sort of like Paul Harvey, that pointed out areas that needed help and offered sound suggestions. Therefore a lot of folks knew where he stood and what he stood for but Reagan understood, very likely from having worked in Hollywood for so long, that the US is made up of a lot more than just Conservatives and he was trying to be a President for everyone in at least someway.

So Reagan was the new broom that was going to sweep clean. Real Conservatives considered him just one step above Satan himself because they wanted someone who was totally going to overthrow the country and install their form of government. The problem was that varied depending on which Conservative you asked. They were still upset that Goldwater had not won when he ran.

Reagan did a lot of good for the US and even the world, but he broke so many laws he had to be pardoned on H. W. Bush's first day in office.

I was quite involved in the Conservative movement during that time, so feel free to trot out the smoke screen and discredit me. You might fool others, but I was there, saw it first hand, and knew some of the key players. I finally got to where I could no longer stand to deal with those people no matter how interesting, in a whacked out sort of way, they were.

Reagan understood that politics is all about the "doable".

You may have "been" there, but your memory is faulty...Reagan never received a pardon from Bush. Reagan never needed a pardon...

Thank you for the correction.

It is interesting to see that the Conservatives here don't cast doubt on the fact that laws were broken, nor care to point out that pardons were handed out.

I quit hanging out with those freaks during the mid 80's. They were getting more and more delusional and beginning to wonder whatever became of the Conservative Utopia Reagan had promised.

They also could not understand his obsession with ending nuclear war.

Some people just can't help themselves wanting to stick with facts rather than go with somebody's fantasy. I don't understand it, either.
