Great thread! Enough of the political crap, glad to see it pushed into another section.
I run 3.5mi 6x/week, spin 30 mins 6x week (keep HR at about 140) and power walk (with the dogs) every day for 3.5 miles. Lift 3x week: Dead lift, bench (what a dumb lift!) squat (ass to grass), standing military press, weighted dips and weighted pull ups. Started doing yoga last fall. Wife got me into it as she has been practicing consistently for 6 years. It's helped balance and flexibility, along with improved mood and overall energy levels. Try to attend class 3x week and practice at home. I recommend it to anyone and their are different styles and kinds of classes to suit any interest/need. Figure I spend about 20 hrs/week doing this (including daily dog walks). Sure beats going to work!!

?Se habla Espanol? If so, there's mindless television programming on Telemundo Univision cable network @ my health club. _this passes the time as well as no less than 9 television channels and 15 or so FM radio channels at the ready for your headphones on each treadmill/bicycle/elliptical machine at my facility too. What does the outdoors offer? UV rays, air-pollution, rabid motorists and dogs. Insects. Any Qs?

You forgot to mention the tremendous Mississippi River there.
It's unconscious how much of Minnesota is blessed with ungodly amounts of fresh water. You have to see the power of the Mississippi River in-person as it passes through Minneapolis/St. Paul to believe it! Texas has some awesome water reservoirs, (lakes) but none even close to Minnesota's.

We bike by the river, too far to run. Yes, Mn is nice. No mountains and I love to ski.

Who hits the gym? This guy:
![]() I don't have time to go to a gym when I can go hiking on trails right outside my door.

re-establishing the gym routine

Yesterday was Day 7 (in a row). It's easy to do the elliptical for an hour. GF and I broke up last Wednesday. I put the ear nubs in and listen to CNBC, sometimes switching to CNN in the morning. I try to get to the gym at 5am. Yes, that is not a typo, I said 5am. I started adding Arms and Abs on Tuesday; so, I'm on a T, Th, Sa rotation for Arms and Abs.......I'm going to lose some weight that I gained back. This past Sunday, I was watching Golf. I guess once Football season starts, I will go in the afternoon, and watch NFL. What you see below is 60 minutes (55 + 5minute cooldown) on the elliptical that I did yesterday. Today, I did an easy 40 minute workout. My goal is for 10 days in a row, then break for Labor Day, then just take Saturdays off. I think that's going to be my routine. Time will tell. I'm just about over the girlfriend. Learned some things about myself. I'm still quite capable of falling in love.

I joined the local YMCA - its in a pretty middle/upper middle class neighborhood so security and getting there is easy (I can run there from my house).
Besides trying to to 30m of cardio on monday and friday, they have a wednesday morning Insanity class - 1 40-minute session following the insanity time schedule (5x 30second workouts, 30sec rest period....etc...I forget the rest. I sweat buckets. Been doing it for 6 months and I am still surprised ("its over already?") when she starts into the cooldown routine...to me that makes it a good workout. I can run on a treadmill for 30 or 40 mins if I feel the need. But those TV's and captions or music are necessary. Running around where I live (stereotypical suburb) is easy and reduces the need for music. I used to be into Tae Kwon Do (same YMCA...) Had to stop due to kids/money. I miss that a lot, good workout, good people, good emphasis on flexibility and precision. -John (not a ninja...not even close)

Thanks. It's been a regimen since the spring. The dog/power walking and running will taper off when the arctic weather returns.
I had cartilage surgery on my L knee about 5 years ago (Kuan was nice enough to bring us some grass fed, hi quality steak). Anyhow, I probably ramp up the yoga and taper off the other stuff. I'm approaching 50, so I think flexibility, alignment, posture and functional strength is vital. I've been practicing Iyengar yoga which is based on the yoga sutra of Patanjali. Mr. Iyengar died 2 wks ago. It's much different than CorePower, YMCA, "McYoga" Samadhi - BKS Iyengar - YouTube In order to teach, you need a min of 3 yrs practice with another teacher. Then pass 2 exams with senior teachers. As opposed to paying $1200 for a weekend yoga workshop and getting a certificate. There are only 6 Iyengar teachers in MN! Teachers typically visit India every year to brush up with the the masters. ![]() I'm sure they have some awesome powerhouses in Cali. Manuso Manos teaches out of the Bay Area, highest ranked teacher besides the Mr. Iyengar. Here's Manuso: Yoga Javier doing kapotasana - YouTube These teachers are often brusk and direct, no touchey, feely BS. It's direct experience....

Oh man. I know it would do me a world of good to get back into it. I was never a highly advanced or devoted practitioner but I've done enough to have felt the benefit. I did class with my sister while on vacation last Christmas and it was invigorating.
