Got this two wheeled beast tuned up...

After 8 months, I finally had my road bike serviced and am back riding! Thought I would be huffing and puffing all over the place since I've been out of it for so long, but it looks like the break, weight loss, lifting, running, spin one day a week, and some HIIT classes have actually improved my speeds and hill climbing. I destroyed my previous personal best on my first outing - 15 miles in ~50 minutes, including having to wait for some lights to change and a small warm up to ease back into things!

Awww yeah, feeling good! Anyone else here started to get back on the bike again now that the weather is nice?

I need to dig mine out this weekend, used to regularly ride up to 30 miles on back roads but been slacking off. Needs a rear wheel bearing or something. And a shifter cable. It's a hybrid bike that I use for long-distance, groceries, and beating the crap out of local dirt trails . Dirt is my favorite.

I ride seven miles to work and seven miles home, five days a week. My wife and I rode 100 miles in the mountains surrounding Chattanooga on Saturday. We do three or four metrics (62 miles) and century rides (100 miles) a season and lots of shorter rides on weekends. We also enjoy annual week-long supported tours and a couple of three-day weekend credit card tours. Haven't done self-supported touring, but that I hope will come when work responsibilities are not so time-consuming. We will tour the Eugene, Oregon, area this September. We bike toured Vermont on our honeymoon. Biking is addictive.

Do it. Admittedly I treat my roadbike like a hybrid or mountain at times, and ride off the trail. That, and I like to jump it. Being clipped in helps me get more air. lol

Thanks! When I got into this health kick, I was pushing 280lbs. Now I'm sitting around 175lbs. Losing weight is more mental than anything else - I've had friends eat clean and work out, but their head wasn't in the game so they didn't stick with it. :/

CYCLOCROSS!

I got an alloy-frame mountain bike with a few issues for free. New 1.5" road tires, hammered one of the chainrings straight, slapped on some lights and a bell and I have a perfect city and touring bike.

Good replacement for the 240D, may it R.I.P. I've been doing about 15-20 miles a day (15 is basically commuting). Lost about 15 lb so far since late March, shooting for another 10-15 lb.

I went riding in the Watchung Mountains of NJ on Sunday, about 1500' total rise and fall. Hills that I found difficult in high school seemed like child's play. Still got winded on one segment of 20% grade though.

Southern Chile is a good place to bike. Little traffic and drivers are courteous. We went guided and stayed at ski huts. Our guide was knowledgeable and capable. He was a lot of fun, liked to drink wine.

I ride 30 - 45 miles every Tuesday night with 3 to 5 colleagues after work. They're on hybrids. I'm on a 15 year old Gary Fisher 29er mountain bike. My city has more than 20 miles of river front trails (actually 8 foot wide concrete sidewalk) and we get a lot of our miles in there.

I picked up my bike used for under $500. It was over $1500 when new. A good quality bike is a joy to ride.

I rode my kid's old mountain bike out to the mailbox one time. One time. More fun to hop on a horse or even go by shank's mare. It's a mile to the mail BTW.

Do it. I've spent time on a hybrid and mountain and found my inner speed demon likes road. Hunkered down and cruising at 19-20mph on the flats is fun.

I'll definitely agree that it's addictive! I'm thinking about training for a Century ride, but the free time needed to make that work is a bit scarce at the moment...

Eat clean while piling miles on the bike, and the weight will fall off. There was a point where I was dropping 1-3 lbs a week eating clean and biking every day! I'm playing with my diet now - I know I'm not consuming nearly enough food given my activity level.

In complete agreement! I'm going to be hammering out more miles this summer than any prior summer. I might even attempt a century ride at some point or another.

The only "road" style riding is on a gym bicycle. They make my nads fall asleep. I hope real road bike wont do that.
